The Providence VA Medical Center (PVAMC) is dedicated to providing Veterans residing in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts with high-quality health care, across the full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology. The PVAMC system consists of the medical center, located at 830 Chalkstone Avenue, Providence, R.I., and community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) in Middletown, R.I., New Bedford, Mass., and Hyannis, Mass. The Providence VA Medical Center was built in 1948 and accepted its first patient in 1949. The New Bedford CBOC was opened in 1985; the Hyannis CBOC was opened in February 1998 and moved to a newly-renovated location in November 2008. The Middletown CBOC was opened on Veterans Day in 2000. Together, the facilities comprise more than 1,600 full-time equivalent employees, and serve more than 36,000 Veterans.
