What Amanda enjoys most about being a midwife is being able to make personal connections and build lasting relationships with her patients. She loves meeting new people and having the opportunity to learn something new every day. She is most interested in Centering Pregnancy, breastfeeding and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Amanda chose to be a midwife because pregnancy and birth always fascinated her. She believes that pregnancy and childbirth are normal physiologic processes, and each birth is unique and special. As a midwife, Amanda feels honored to be a small part of so many birth stories. Amandas parents have been her biggest influences.

Sonya credits her mother for teaching her the importance of advocating for what is best for the community and that sense of advocacy led her to become a midwife. Sonya loves midwifery because it embodies her feminism and her commitment to equality. As a midwife, she empowers patients through health education and support. She is passionate about providing accessible, evidence based and whole person care to individuals across their lifespan and during childbirth. In the office setting, she provides emotional and physical support for patients. On days Sonya is on call, she is motivated by a strong sense of privilege to be able to guide patients and their families through the labor and birth process.

Lori was inspired to become a certified nurse midwife (CNM) by the midwives she worked with when she was a labor and delivery nurse. Their approach to prenatal care was far more personalized and patient-centered than anything she had previously experienced. Lori loves being a CNM because every day is a new experience for her. She enjoys meeting new patients and getting to know them and their families while providing care. Lori is especially interested in reducing the primary cesarean section rate. She attended her first CNM conference on reducing primary cesarean sections in November 2016 and she credits that experience for guiding how she practices today.

As a certified nurse-midwife, I see my primary role as listening to and partnering with women and their families. This takes place across a woman's lifespan whether they are pregnant, giving birth, postpartum, seeking well-women care, interested in family planning, or coming in with concerns about their health. I am excited to get to know you and your family while providing excellent care and valuable information to improve your life experience. My passion for helping others isnt just within the hospital, I volunteer within the Kalamazoo Public Schools and host various blanket making events for hospitalized children. During my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, camping, hiking and visiting Lake Michigan.

Womb to Grow Birth Services

I am a certified birth doula. I love to support women in one of their most powerful moments, birthing their children. I love to support my clients both physically and emotionally and sharing my knowledge with them to give the tools that help them feel empowered in their birth choices. I also have experience as a high school teacher (2008-2014), postpartum doula (2024 - current) and am training to be a certified professional midwife (2023 - current). All of these experiences I've had at this point, as well as my own births (2009 - 2021) have made me well rounded in my ability to effectively teach childbirth to my clients. I'd love to be a part of your journey in whatever way you need me.

Emma attributes the circle of midwives who have supported her as the biggest influence in her chosen career path. As Emma has seen the positive impact midwives can have all over the world, it inspired her to join such an incredible profession. Midwifery is such a unique career path because it is based on trusting the human body and what it is capable of while creating space for science and medicine when needed. I love getting to work with patients across their lifespan and through some of the most life altering and vulnerable times in their life. Each day brings new patients, new stories, and new challenges. I enjoy working with people to help improve their lives in ways that matter to them says Emma.

Lori has been a certified nurse-midwife for more than 25 years. She is passionate about womens health and caring for a diverse population of people and their families. Lori is married with three children and spends time volunteering for youth sports and academic programs. I practice midwifery as a partnership with my patients. My job is to educate women about their obstetrical and gynecological care needs and guide them to making responsible, evidence-based decisions. I believe when patients become knowledgeable about their health care choices, they are more incline to take care of themselves and promote healthy living to others in a respectful manner.
