Ive always known I wanted to work with pregnant people. My passion has continued to grow through my experiences as a labor and delivery nurse, certified nurse midwife, and mother. Outside of work, I enjoy exploring the area with my husband, kids, and Australian Shepherd pup.

Ive always known I wanted to work with pregnant people. My passion has continued to grow through my experiences as a labor and delivery nurse, certified nurse midwife, and mother. Outside of work, I enjoy exploring the area with my husband, kids, and Australian Shepherd pup.

I began my career in womens health over ten years ago where I fell in love with labor and delivery while working at The Duke Birthing Center in Durham, NC. The Duke Birthing Center is a high-risk tertiary labor and delivery unit which afforded me the opportunity to connect and learn from many of the greatest physicians and midwives in the world of obstetrics. I also served as a clinical instructor for the Duke University School of Nursing. It was during this time that I saw the value of collaborative care between physicians and midwives, as well as student learners. The unique insights of midwives as experts in normal labor and birth was key to a balanced approach to obstetric care in an academic setting. These experiences were instrumental in molding delivery of care to ensure ALL women, no matter their health status, received focused-centered care that normalized their hospital stay. I knew becoming a certified nurse midwife would enable me to reach even more women. When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family and my fur baby, a Labradoodle named Gunner.

I chose to become a midwife after an amazing physician-led pregnancy and birth with my first child. I asked my doctor how he managed to create an experience that was so patient-focused and his response was, I worked with midwives right after residency and they helped me learn to listen. Fast forward several years: I decided to make a major career switch for the sake of doing something impactful and midwifery jumped to the front of my memory. It was the most impulsive decision my family and I ever made, but it has become the most wonderful adventure and we have never looked back. My philosophy to patient care is that most patients know where they want to go, they just need help creating the map to get there. My goal is to use modern evidence-based practice with the patient-focused lens of midwifery to navigate any obstacles so that we can find the safest, most respectful path to our happiest destination. When I am not at work, I relax by laughing with my close friends, having adventures with my family, and my ultimate guilty pleasure: binge-watching dating shows with my husband.
