almare specializes in high quality, artisan gelato. we make our gelato fresh everyday in the shop's laboratorio. we follow a traditional process of gelato making that allows our ingredients time to blend together, enhancing the flavor of each scoop. we don't cut corners with artificial powders or chemicals that better the appearance of the gelato but compromise the flavor. we purchase farm fresh citrus, strawberries and other fruit from monterey market in berkeley. we import our nuts from farmers in sicily and piedmont. We are proud to be part of berkeley's established tradition of authentic, fine food.

We are a small, family owned, artisan ice cream shop. We are locally owned - really...we live 4 blocks away. We make our ice cream from the highest quality, freshest ingredients we can get our hands on. We start with organic cream from Straus Family Creamery and scour local farmers markets for good things to flavor our ice cream. In addition, we serve coffee from Bicycle Coffee...also organic, local, family owned and delicious!

We make and serve Frozen custard — an amazingly smooth and dense soft serve ice cream made from a custard base (milk, cream, sugar, egg yolk) in a special machine. We make ours fresh all day long for the best texture. We are a locally-owned small business, we make our frozen custard base and almost every topping from scratch. We use local and organic ingredients, compostable spoons, and are proud to be in a green building!
