Dating back to the mid-18th Century, Shirley-Eustis House is a historic manor house constructed by William Shirley. The house is listed as the National Historic Landmark and is one of the few royal governor mansions in the country. This Georgian style house is a hub for local events today. Many cultural programs and local festivals take place here quite often. Weddings and private functions can be held here too. The house and the surrounding property is available on hire. It is also open to public visitation and guided tours are offered.

MoreThe historian was exceptionally welcoming and informative. Limited parking, but not busy. History lesson was very valuable. Furniture was not original, but of the period.
MoreWe were welcomed by the gracious director, Una MacMahon, and the vivacious historian Jennifer on a private April visit. The house is one of the last vestiges of Roxbury's rural past when this mansion was the country house of the royal governor. The architecture is beautiful and impressive and the history is fascinating. The grounds are lovely, and the former carriage house of Isabella Stewart Gardiner was rescued and placed here. The nearby neighborhood was quiet when we visited and the street is lined with interesting homes of successive waves of immigrants and an elementary school. It's well worth a visit both to see the neighborhood and the huge mansion in its midst.
MoreOnce a sprawling estate of 33 acres, the Shirley Eustis House sits majestically on an acre of land with its beautiful gardens and historic fruit orchards in the Boston neighborhood of Roxbury. It remains the most imposing and best preserved of the four standing colonial governors' homes in the United States. The gardens are especially beautiful in the springtime when the peony are blooming. The Ingersoll-Gardner Carriage House was moved to the property in 1998 and has some fine old carriages. Visit this important landmark, you won't be disappointed.
MoreManagement changed recently and it has been all down hill since. Drunks are passed out on the lawn, people shoot heroin up on the steps, and the new woman running the place would rather harass long standing supporters than try to maintain the tranquil historical oasis created by her predecessor.
