This popular, casual restaurant is noted for its signature open faced Rueben sandwich, purported to be the best in Western New York. The eatery was named after the late John Patrick Fitzgerald, a pressman who was on the now defunct Courier Express newspaper for over 50 years. Mr. Fitzgerald was well known in Buffalo’s Irish community. The restaurant’s menu includes Irish favorites like corned beef and cabbage and Irish beer cheddar soup, along with salads, wraps, wings, and sandwiches, as well as steak, ribs, and chicken dishes. Their Buffalo combo includes a mini beef on weck served with chicken wings. They offer free Wi-Fi, USD2 daily drink specials, and have 15 flat screen TV’s. -Christine A. Smyczynski

tripadvisorWe ate here two years ago and I couldn’t wait to come back!We were one of like 4 tables that were seated. Quiet atmosphere. Amazing wings and waffle fries!I was so excited that we were driving through again and placed an online order. They forgot one of my order of fries! I was so sad! Luckily, my husband shared his with me. Their waffle fries are seriously the best I’ve ever had. When I went in to get my order, there were people everywhere! Loud and crowded. The bar was packed! Yes, it’s a Friday night. And Yes, that’s great for business. But, holy moly! I was not expected it to be like that. But, my grandpa always said, “if there’s a line, it’s worth waiting in.”The wings are the perfect amount of crisp! And the Murph’s Sauce is a mix of hot sauce, Parmesan cheese and minced garlic. It hit the spot! The mild wings were a bit orange in color, but they didn’t taste any different than the plain wings. The blue cheese dressing had no flavor at all. My husband got the buffalo chicken wrap. It was sooooooo messy! Leaking “juice” everywhere! He said it was subpar. So my advice, get the wings and waffle fries and enjoy!
MoreWe popped in for a few beers, great little bar with a good selection of beers. The kids had chocolate milk, but I would not say it’s the most family friendly bar even though the staff were amazing We didn’t eat but the menu and food looked great!
MoreMy wife and I were traveling through the area and thought we would try JP Fitzgerald's for supper. It was around 4pm and not particularly crowded. We came in through the door marked entrance and walked to a large room to sit down. There were no signs to wait to be seated so we found our own table. No servers ever came to our table. No servers ever acknowledged we were even there. I guess we didn't look local enough.
MoreThe food and service at JP Fitzgeralds was very good. A nice selection was offered on the menu. A very active bar scene was also evident. We enjoyed our meal.
MoreWe brought our Dinner Club of 6 to this place on a busy Thursday night. All of our meals were very good. I had their combo of a mini-roast beef sandwich with 5 chicken wings and waffle fries. The food was very tasty. My wife had the chicken souvlaki and she said it was very good. Our server was friendly and very efficient. My only criticism is that it was very noisy, making it difficult to talk with each other.
