tripadvisor2 main comments : - I left it 30 years ago when Y(MCA) meant Young.... The first surprise was to see middle aged men being admitted to YMCA. I was told this is the current policy. Why not but Y should be dropped from the name as it is misleading. - The facade looks great but.... The second surprise was the appalling state of the housing facilities. As if no investment had been made since the 70's. The feeling when you arrive at reception is terrible . Even more when you discover your room ! YMCA is rather affordable but it should not prevent management from having a long term housing facilities investment plan (like for the fitness center). With good planning, it would not take so much to get this place back to the right accomodation level.
MoreI stayed for more than two weeks. The very last day when I was rushing to the airport, I told the front desk that I need to pick up my package that I ordered from Amazon. The front desk (Indian guy) told me he was eating, please don't bother him. I was like wtf??? I told him I was rushing to the airport, he said no no on he is eating and asked me to wait until he finished his dinner. I have traveled to many places around the world and this is the first time that the front desk asked me to wait because he is having dinner. This is irritating especially when you are rushing to the airport and catch the flight!! I WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN BECUSE OF THE WOSRT ATTITUDE OF THAT FRONT DESK OLD MAN. THINK TWICE IF YOU WANT TO STAY HERE. Except for that old Indian guy in the front desk, other staffs were really friendly and helpful.
MoreWorst accommodations I have ever experienced, anywhere in the world. Somewhere between a jail cell and a squat. Smells terrible. Shower was ice cold. I do not know how the water was so painfully cold when the temperatures outside were so hot. Staying in the rooms was like being trapped in a hot car. And, I was literally trapped because I need a walker to get around and the elevator wasn't working. I spent an hour trying to get help but had to go through the YMCA reception to get connected to the front desk, was on hold repeatedly, disconnected, transferred to an answering machine. My next call would have been 911. I ended up with heat stroke and they acted put out. It is not really a hotel. Don't expect anything resembling service, or even polite. You are not allowed to have anyone in your room. Rooms are so small, the head of the uncomfortable bed is not against the wall because the old fashion, screenless, little, window takes most of the wall. There is no headboard. Opening the window does nothing to get rid of the smell. It just lets more heat in on a hot day. Doors have deadbolts as well as a locking handle and are very heavy, requiring two hands to open. Don't expect help with your bags, even if you are obviously disabled. Don't stay here if you are disabled. It is literally dangerous. If you are not disabled, it would merely be very unpleasant. The bathrooms are down the hall. At least they were clean. Unlike the rooms. The rooms are disgusting and no amount of cleaning will get them clean. There are holes in the very uneven walls. Holes in what someone might have once called carpet. The ceiling tiles don't completely cover the ceiling. The lighting is awful. If I ever spend the night in Berkeley again, I will sleep in my car before risking my life here again. Do not let the location fool you into thinking staying here is a good idea.
MoreI was hosted on September 24 and 25, 2018. I forgot my electronic book valued at about 170 dollars. I called them and I got to talk to the person who found him. This person contacted his maintenance supervisor who agreed to send him to Spain. I would pay all expenses, of course ...(I said him) 3 months later I have not received anything. I have also written different emails to the hotel itself and to the maintainer of the same and no one has answered me. I have also called from Spain to the office of the head of maintenance and they have answered me that He is on free days. No, I have not been able to talk to him either. As a hotel it is what it says: a residence to sleep. For the rest ... I would not go to a hotel where THEY HAVE LEFT SOMETHING THAT I FORGOT.
MoreStayed here for one night while in Berkeley going to a show at the Greek Theater. Check in was great. Room was extremely bare bones simple with two small beds next to the showers and bathrooms. Rooms were just fine for one night and a place to sleep. Planned to use the pool but we never made it there. Great location, took about 2 minutes to get to Greek. We walked through campus to get home and it was awesome to see campus.
