The Awbury Arboretum is 55 acres of horticultural mastery located in the historic Germantown district of Philadelphia. Wildflowers, ferns, serene fields and woodlands combine to create a formal garden along Victorian standards. The land was purchased in 1852 by the wealthy Cope family as a summer home; it became an arboretum in 1916. Programs for inner-city children and guided nature walks are also available. Admission to the park is free.

tripadvisorWent for Harvest Market. Lots of fun activities, ambience, music, food, animals. A nice way for a couple to spend an afternoon.
MoreJust returned from a wedding at the Arboretum. It was lovely. The grounds are beautiful but not handicap accessible. Big flat rock pathways that are not level. Access into the building to use the rest room required access thru a few very un-level steps. I saw a few people almost go down as they climbed thru the door ways (they looked like huge windows, but were actual doorways). I saw no ramps or way a wheelchair could have gotten into the building. If so we missed it with nobody telling us. We parked up close to the building, yet when we went to leave, I pulled out and heard something dragging under my car. I stopped in the parking lot closer to some lighting & noticed a huge tank (looked like a gas grill-fill up tank) wedged underneath my car. Thankfully an employee of the place assisted with helping me remove the tank w/o it exploding. It was a helium gas tank that could not have rolled under the car-someone shoved it between front and back tires. Then, the next morning, I went to get into my car & noticed two huge (6' & 8) scratches on my brand new car. Although it could have happened at the hotel (we park handicap, so I honestly doubt it did), I feel someone was messing around in the parking lot & keyed the car. It's brand new with less than 1500 miles on it. So, although I can't hold the Arboretum responsible, I feel lighting the parking lot could have prevented all of this from happening. All in all, I still recommend the place as a wonderful venue for a wedding.
More55 acres of extensive lawns, meadows, wetlands, gentle rolling hills ,and magnificent trees this arboretum is a good place to appreciate nature. There is a collection of homes with theFrancis Cope House open to the public. The Agricultural Village includes a pollinator habitat{ a beee keeper's delight}, The Philly Goat Project,The Awbury Food Forest, The greenhouses, and the aEducational Building.
MoreWe celebrated a memorial for a family member here, with about 35 people attending. The Cope House was perfect for this occasion. Many of the guests commented on the high quality of the (catered) food, and the catering service was effective but unobtrusive. I would certainly recommend Awbury to anyone else planning a similar event.
MoreIt's quiet and peaceful for certain. My wife and I hadn't gone more than 50 yards and turned our first corner when I spotted a fawn and mother about 20 yards down the path. We stopped, but unfortunately they spotted us and ran off before we could get a picture. We made our way to the Visitor Center at the Cope House and obtained a map, but unfortunately the name of the trail we were following did not match the labeling on the map. The staff we had met was very pleasant and helpful. I was expecting to see more flowering plants, but it was little more than a walk in some pretty woods.
