tripadvisorMy kids enjoyed the tire swing, the playground, activities, sand box and the trails for hiking. There is a caged area with different kinds of birds to see: mallard ducks, an irritated goose and songbirds. There's often a turkey--or a dozen--wandering around. Great sledding hill. Very limited parking available, but it's free.
Morethere are some playground facilities, also a sand pit, also some trail for you to walk, a large field people can play soccer, the fall color there is beautiful, it's good to go there on a sunny day in fall, it gives the local a place for leisure walk. There is also a little museum, free admission, however due to Covid-19, it was closed when we went there. But we can see a turkey outside, and some birds lived in the cage.
MoreMy son has gone here on a few different field trips and I have taken him here during Halloween time in the evenings when they have had special events for children. The staff that worked here did a really nice job making the place a little spooky but also relevant to discussing animals in their fall habitats. We enjoyed the hot cocoa and the trails that were open in the fall.
MoreHawthorn Glen is a forested nature preserve in the heart of Milwaukee. With self-guided nature trails (including a wheelchair-accessible path), a playground, play fields, sheltered picnic areas, and a tiny, touch please nature center, it's a great spot for families. Hawthorn Glen is run by the Milwaukee Public Schools, and it is open to the public without charge.
