At a stunning height of 76 feet (23.16 meters), The Golden Driller is a truly inspiring sight to behold. Although this giant has watched over the Tulsa Expo Center from its current site since 1966, it was originally built in 1953 for the International Petroleum Exposition. The monument depicts an oil worker standing tall besides an oil derrick, and is one of the tallest statues in the entire country. While the Golden Driller continues to serve as a testament to the dedication of all those who have made their mark in the Petroleum industry, it has also come to be a popular tourist attraction that offers a rather unique photo opportunity. The Golden Driller has been built just outside the Tulsa Expo Center and is clearly visible as you drive along East 21st Street.

tripadvisorI was excited to see this landmark. It is truly tall and should be experienced in person. It only takes a few minutes. Google Maps sent me to the Expo parking lot entrance to the east but you want the entrance that is right in front of the Expo building and driller. There is a small parking lot there. I was there about 6 PM on a Saturday and there were several other travelers there also. It's about a 5-minute stop to take pictures and read the sign.
MoreThe Golden Driller is a couple mile detour from the main Route 66 alignment that most people follow. This is maybe a 15 minute stop. You can visit the Driller anytime and there is a free parking lot right in front of it. I was really impressed with this and it might be the tallest giant I saw on all of 66. There is nothing else to see here unless the attached convention center has anything going on. This is a must see for 66 travelers and roadside attractions lovers that are visiting the Tulsa area. Check it out.
MoreA must see while in the area. It is much taller than it looks and just a neat place to get a picture.
MoreFairly easy access and some lim parking. Kinda cool to get a picture of and with the giant oil driller which is representative of Oklahoma.
MoreTraveling the 66 and visiting OK. Sadly it’s now “built Ford tough” on the belt instead of Tulsa. But neat to see in person.
