Swan Marketplace is housed in a building that spans an entire area in the Old Oakland neighborhood. The building was constructed in stages at different times between 1917 and 1940. The terra cotta and brick building has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Many organizations and restaurants call this historic building home, including the historic Housewives Market, which has been operating since the early 20th Century. Today, visitors to the marketplace can wander through the indoor and outdoor spaces, taking in the scenery and the smells coming from the many delicious restaurants housed in the building.

tripadvisorI do like this market, even though the options here are limited to a few stores. But what they have are of quality and they reflect the local area. The building is old school Oakland on the edge of downtown. And you can have lunch here.
MoreThis downtown market in Old Oakland is historic and also features some good prepared food products that you can eat at the benches provided. Plus you can take some groceries home.
MoreThis is an old fashioned market and used to be much more, but that was many years ago. There are a few food vendors here. You can get lunch, or take some food home. Some good choices but limited.
MoreStill a lot of great Vendors . I was glad to see this place is the same as I found during my last trip to Oakland . Downtown has a lot of cool spots.
MoreLove the concept of various chefs, in an open market setting with fresh air on a beautiful late summer evening. Swan's was a great dinner experience with a friend. We sampled our way around trying an assortment of plates and drinks. The standouts were Cosecha Cafe, where there was a long line. We ordered the SALAD w/ SEASONAL FRUIT which had watermelon with cucumber, lettuce, pumpkin seeds, jicama, and citrus dressing. This was possibly the BEST salad I have ever eaten. The delightful crunch of the jicama and seeds with the fruit was so refreshing. And a generous portion for the price. This was large enough for 2 to share. We also tried the Cook and her Farmer (love the name) and tried the BIG SUR MELT which was a hit. It was a grilled cheese w/ gulf shrimp, green onion. Heaven!
