The Peralta Hacienda Historical Park is the site of the first European settlement in the area, and the only surviving piece of the once sprawling Rancho San Antonio. The centerpiece of the park is the historic Peralta House - a 19th-century, Victorian mansion that has been restored and transformed into a museum that chronicles the daily lives of the early settlers of the East Bay. Although the house itself is open to visitors for only a few hours each week, the park and playground are open throughout the day. Live performances, educational programs, cultural events and other activities are often hosted at the Peralta Hacienda Historical Park, bringing together the people of Oakland.
