Battleship North Carolina or USS North Carolina (BB-55) was the battleship that was used during the Second World War. The warship was in use from 1941 right through 1947 and served multiple wars through its existence. The battleship was then struck in 1960, post which it was docked at the Wilmington port in 1962 to be served as a ship museum. The Ship has been renovated so as to showcase its pristine image and glory that it faced during its service.

tripadvisorA brilliant attraction. Endlessly fascinating, so much to see, read and enjoy. Parking is plentiful, staff are very knowledgeable and happy to chat. Definitely worth a visit.
MoreReally interesting couple of hours looking around the ship. Not expensive to go in and you can easily spend 2 to 3 hours looking around. Several people around volunteering who you could ask questions, but most of the tour is self-guided. Some of the internal parts of the ship means using tight stairwells and is not very easy to get around if you're disabled.
MoreWas able to spend an hour viewing and exploring her. Cost was very inexpensive (as a Veteran, got the military rate). Ship looks good and painted vibrantly. Displays adorned her decks to tell her story. Museum onshore leading to her told her story in detail and provides insight into her history. Wasn't very crowded, but then I arrived late in the day. Touring her decks and looking at her beauty reminded me why at age 10, I choose to serve.
MoreWhat an incredible experience. $14 per ticket and $10 for senior is money well spent to glimpse history of the brave men who were assigned to the ship. The fastest battleship in its day, you have access to 9 levels of this iconic ship. With posted vignettes along your tour route, you get a very personal insight to the conditions these men lived in during their sea bound journey. 2,000 men aboard the ship all with very precisely rolls to man during times in the battle space. Surrounded by 100s of support personnel including barbers, dentists, doctors, chaplains, shoe and clothing repair; the list goes on. Stories from Japanese torpedos to friendly fire are told as you journey below deck and experience first hand the smells and feelings aboard this ship. We spent close to three hours and probably could have lasted longer if not for the oppressive heat and humidity caused by mid day showers. This is a must stop during your stay in Wilmington. You will not be disappointed.
MoreOne of our favorite experiences in Wilmington! My family had an amazing time exploring the USS Battleship North Carolina and learning about its incredible World War II history. The ship is well preserved, easy to navigate, and full of fascinating exhibits that bring history to life. It’s an unforgettable experience for both adults and kids. Well worth every penny.
