The trail itself is nice - there are portions that are very shaded and quiet. However, the signage - especially the portion east of Miller Park along Canal Street - is not the greatest. Make sure you know where you are going before you start.

They additional paved path is great. We started near the Harley Davidson museum, past Milker Park & State Fair all the way to Bluemound Rd and approx 120th St-just west of Mayfair Rd. Not too many bikers and not many places that you must stop. Approximately 16.5 miles RT

If you are near the Domes or Mitchell Park, you can connect to this paved trail that offers scenic views of wildflowers and the downtown skyline. Many people were out on bikes and walking.

I walked the Hank Aaron State Trail at least once a night, well--part of it. After I left Chicago, I made myself walk to remain to get exercise. Parts of it are pretty, but it can get very dark and sketchy in the shaded areas. I tried rollerblading it a few times, and the streets to get down to the trail are a broken leg waiting to happen. Thanks Milwaukee. So--incredibly poor. No one is surprisingly really on the trail...there usually in the corner bar getting hammered. I lived in West Allis, and would try to take advantage as much as possible. Overall though, it was nothing ground breaking.

We started downtown and joined trail at Canal Street. After a mile or two we had to stop and consult city bike map many times. As you get to the ballpark the trail disintegrates into broken sidewalk and even worse signage. We gave up and returned downtown. I challenge anyone from the City to ride this trail and not see the needs. Unfortunate because there are a few scenic areas . We also reviewed Oak Leaf Trail which is wonderful.
