The historical center and heart of the city's Mexican culture, the square is the largest Mexican marketplace outside of Mexico. Here you can dine on Mexican food at one of several cafes, enjoy the lively sounds of Mariachi bands and buy wonderful blankets, clothes, leather and metal goods and much more, imported from just south of the border. The square plays host to many cultural events and fairs throughout the year, including Fiesta del Mercado (Party of the Market) in April and Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in November.

tripadvisorCute place but really touristy. There were a few unique shops but over all there were MANY that were selling the same things. The best part by far was Mi Tierra!
MoreYou pay $10 for parking so be sure you want to stay the day or maybe walk or take an e-bike or scooter if you’re already staying in San Antonio. There’s a ton of great shops and food vendors but it isn’t in the best part of town so be aware of your surroundings. It’s iconic for sure.
MoreThe music... the food... the shops... the colors... the fun for all ages. One feature that caught my eye is that the market even makes use of the Interstate 10-35 underpass. The area below the bridge covers a basketball court, ping-pong tables, swings, and a play area.
MoreAll the vendors sold the same items. Items for sale in the market seemed old and dusty. Not for me.
MoreThis is a colorful market with street food, restaurants (mostly Mexican), souvenir shops, and handmade crafts. It's a good way to spend an afternoon. I wish we had more time here.
