This clock is really magical, it plays a tune while statues of animals holding musical instruments move around the clock. It’s recognisable from the animated film called Madagascar which begins in Central Park Zoo.

Not far from the Central Park Zoo you can find the quaint Delacorte clock. The clock contains representations of animals playing instruments, and plays music every half hour, at 0 and 30 minutes past the hour, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.  My son was keen to see this and take both photos and a short video. He remembers the cartoon version of this clock from the film Madagascar and was so pleased to see the real thing. As we waited for the next performance at the top of the hour we were surprised to see so many people walking under the clock without ever seeming to notice it. What a pity.

Wonderful, happy clock that has animal figures moving around every 30 minutes from 8 AM - 6 PM. Kids and adults love it. Free and easy to find. STRONGLY recommended. On the day I visited, workers were fixing it (successfully). As the clock chimed at noon, one of the workers pretended to be one of the figures and moved around the clock. Very fun.

I saw the Delacorte Clock in January 2022. It reminds me of the Astronomy Clock in Prague or the Clock in Munich (Marienplatz). It has chimes and bells and animals. It is definitely worth seeing.

We had visited New York three times before, but only recently discovered the delacorte clock when watching the movie A Rainy day in New York. We set out to find it and were lucky enough to arrive at 7 minutes to noon. After a short wait the monkeys on the top started chiming the upper bell. Soon after that the remaining bells started and there was a parade of animals around the top of the tower. To find the clock tower head for the zoo. It’s right beside it. Definitely worth seeing.
