tripadvisorThis really moved me, it was so touching, the building looks locked but the team will let you in to see it if you just go to the door. What a beautiful memorial, the colleagues of those lost, have really put heartfelt memories in to this, I don't think there is a word for it. ♥
MoreWe had totally missed this the first time we went to NYC, knowing nothing about it but by the time we returned, I had seen information about it and after going to the OWO, we walked down onto Vesey Street and into the American Express building. It was quiet in the building and we were the only two people visiting the memorial at the time. It was to the left hand side of the public lobby but it was very calm and peaceful. It is a memorial to the 11 American Express employees who lost their lives in 9/11. There are benches around the pool, allowing you to sit and contemplate and the black granite 11 sided pool contains the names and an individual dedication to those who lost their lives. However, what is really memorable is the way tears drop from the circle of 11 ceiling lights; the tears fall randomly and silently and send gentle ripples across the pool. It is truly mesmerising and very poignant. The 11 sided large crystal hanging above the pool is also beautiful and it is worth reading up on the story of how this memorial came into existence. To the side is a stand that gives a short explanation about each individual remembered by the memorial and this is a memorial you should not miss. So respectful and so memorable.
MoreHad never heard of this but was included on a guided tour in NY. This was one of the most beautiful and respectful memorials I have seen. PLEASE do NOT miss this! Thank you AE for honoring your employees with grace respect and dignity. I will never forget…..
MoreWhat a tribute to the 11 American Express employees that lost their lives on 9/11. A beautiful work of art.
MoreTwo things at the top of my NYC visit to do list: visit the American Express 11 Tears Memorial and the 911 Memorial. We did the museum first and then went to the Eleven Tears Memorial. It was a perfect way to let the impact of the museum soak in and heal with the elements around the 11 Tears. The crystal is stunning as is the black granite pool.Tears fall from the ceiling in a random pattern. They ripple across the names of the American Express employees who were killed. Each name has descriptive comments from loved ones. It did not disappoint. Thank you American Express, Ken Smith and Lawrence Stoller.
