Center of the Universe Landmark

The Center of the Universe is one of the most unique attractions in the city of Tulsa. Its strange quality lies in that it can strangely change the sound of your voice if you stand directly at the center of its 30-inch cement circle. The speaker's voice assumes a vibrating nature that can be heard by the speaker alone. There is also no established explanation regarding what causes this unusual phenomenon. However, some theories claim that the parabolic reflectivity of the planter walls may be causing it. The extraordinary nature of this attraction cannot be denied, thus making it a must-visit spot for those in Tulsa.

Special location where you hear your voice echo if you stand in exactly the right spot. Quite interesting.

Don’t bother… it’s under construction and blocked off so you can’t get to it.

Read up on this…it’s nothing like the web pages read. When we arrived there was a team high pressure spraying and scrubbing graffiti of the walls of the site. The circle you stand is cracked and unlevel. Some sights talk about noise reduction in the center of the circle…nope. Some say you can speak and people outside the circle won’t hear it…nope. About the only auditory thing I heard was a slight echoing when I spoke and I stood in the right spot. My wife didn’t hear any differences at all when she tried. You have to move around a little to find that spot. Overall it wasn’t worth a stop.

Visiting on a weekday around noon, I was lucky to find parking at the building next to the bridge where I found the “Center of the Universe“. A local street artist explained to me that restoration was due to the spot, which is quite broken up cement… in the center of the bridge, the center circle is visible, so stand in it, squat down a bit, and start speaking – you will hear your voice echo off of the benches which surround the area, but anyone outside of the small circle will not hear the echo!

Went for a few minutes to experience the echo. Pretty cool, however they need to repave the concrete. May be a tripping hazard:)
