This beautiful, park-like cemetery has been called the "Westminster Abbey of Arkansas" because of the number of notable Arkansans buried here. From state governors to Confederate Generals to newspaper editors, this cemetery is like a who's who of Arkansas history. The grave of David O. Dodd, a 17-year-old who was executed as a Confederate spy, is one of the main attractions. Besides the historical draw, the beauty of the cemetery's flowers, honeysuckle vines and shade-tree lined paths adds to the enjoyment of this lovely outing.

tripadvisorWe're kind of weird and like to visit old cemeteries so while passing through town we decided to make a stop here. It is very large and has large statues and headstones of Civil War dignitaries besides others. We were able to park inside the cemetery so that made it easier to access the area.
MoreThey have on the website to park on 13th street and enter from that gate they may want to update that because both gates on 13th street are locked with very big padlocks and it was so hot that I didnt feel like hiking back to the main entrance so we took some pictures over the gate and left. It looks like it would be a very pretty cemetery.
MoreEvery year students from a local high school give narratives regarding the people who are buried in the cemetery. It is a great outing. Anytime is good to visit. The tombstones are interesting and many famous Arkansans are buried here.
