In 1854, the Nebraska Territory was formed by the United States Congress, and in 1868 the first capitol was constructed in Lincoln. The current capitol building is the third in the city of Lincoln, with construction beginning in 1922. Rising 400 feet (121.9 meters) it is one of the city's tallest buildings and one of the country's tallest capitols. The tower itself sits on a square building occupied by government offices. Inside the tower, the three primary branches of Nebraska government are housed, as well as four observatory decks on the 14th floor which offer great views of the city. The capitol's hallways are decorated with a fine selection of contemporary artwork, notably the 'Governor's Suite Series', 'The Spirit of the Prarie', 'The Labors of the Hand', and the 'The Homesteader's Campfire'.

tripadvisorGuided tour was excellent- not too long, but covered everything.Tower out of bounds with long running aircon work going on.Good food in restaurant provided by a BBQ company.
MoreA Refrain for Lincoln:In the heart of the plains where the March winds blow,Midst the friendly smiles that the locals know,From the Haymarket’s glow to the Husker pride,Lincoln’s a treasure with nothing to hide;A city so quiet in its understated grace,The first week of spring in my favourite place. The brick-paved streets tell a story of old,Where the spirit of Nebraskans is brave and bold,We gathered in red as the stadium roared,For the Mighty Cornhuskers and the points they scored.Though the winter still lingers in the crisp morning air,There’s a warmth in this city you find everywhere.
MoreWe recently visited Lincoln as we start looking for our next place to call home, and Lincoln did not dissapoint! The city is a perfect mix of big city having everything you need and being quaint and welcoming, like a small town feel. We loved the cornfields mixed throughout. The people we met along the way were all friendly and kind. Almost all public buildings like stores, city buildings etc. looked well kept and clean. For being the capital it was beyond expectations. I would say they are striving to thrive and grow, and they are doing a great job at it!
MoreWe arrived earlier than the tour started and were allowed to explore the building on our own. The guided was nice for the history and facts behind the building of the Capitol and all the art inside the building. We were bummed to not be able to go up in the tower.
MoreThe hallways are very dark and hard to see. The elevators are almost impossible to find. The observation tower is closed until 2027. We did not take a tour because they were on the hour and we would’ve had to wait 40 minutes.
