The Theodore Roosevelt Dam is located on the far border of Maricopa County, about 80-miles east of Downtown Phoenix. The dam on the Salt River was built between 1906-11 and was named after then-President Theodore Roosevelt. Primarily used for irrigation and flood control as opposed to hydroelectricity, the dam provides many recreational services. Some of which include Saguaro and Canyon Lakes as well as the larger Roosevelt Lake. Visitors can visit the dam by driving along the majestically rugged Apache Trail (SR-88), although there are no visitor's facilities.
