North of downtown Berkeley, this area features some of the best in fine cuisine and gourmet shopping in the city. Locals looking for food that is a cut above head here for the best in ethnic and local dining. The keystone is definitely Chez Panisse, known throughout the world as the place to eat in the Bay Area. You will also find that some of the best tapas can be found at Cesar and authentic Thai at Cha Am. There are also several vegetarian options.

Doe Library

The Doe Memorial Library is located on the UC Berkeley campus and is adjacent to the Bancroft Library. The library is named after Charles Franklin Doe who had contributed majorly for the project. The construction of the library was completed in 1911 and it is an example of the Classical Revival style. This library was added to the National Register of Historic Places in March 25, 1982.

Lake Anza

This park provides a charming, secluded nature getaway, mostly utilized by locals in the warmer months. There are two parts of the lake, one smaller area used for swimming, equipped with a lifeguard on duty in the summer, and a larger part that is open for fishing year-round. Situated in Tilden Park, the lake features a sandy beach, grassy knolls, a refreshment stand, a nearby parking lot and picnic tables.
