A reminder of the racial discriminating past of Detroit, Eight Mile Wall was built as a division for black and white neighborhoods. Approved by the US government, it was erected in the 1940s. Standing tall at six feet (1.8 meters), it stretches about half a mile. It has been a hub for graffiti artists and over its several decades of existence, its been painted with vibrant murals with social messages.
