Kimberly Giacobbe and Deborah Fritz run this contemporary art gallery as well as their eponymous fine art gallery across the street. The two sisters have applied years of passion in both locations, especially those works which are created in the Santa Fe region. GF brings together artists from around the world, most of which ply an experimental, avant-garde style, however on occasion the art trends more traditional. Overall, the interior space is filled with abstract artwork that constantly pushes the boundaries of formal design.
Commissioned by Archbishop Jean Baptiste Lamy in the year 1869, the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi exemplifies Romanesque Revival architecture like few structures in the world. One of Santa Fe's most recognizable structures thanks to its handsome design, ornate rose window, captivating main facade, and stunning New-Mexican embellishments. This local landmark houses many religious relics, including the chalice used by Lamy and the oldest Madonna in the United States. Its interiors are as impressive as its exteriors, with exquisite, stained glass windows sourced all the way from France being one of its most eye-catching features. The Blessed Sacrament Chapel, San Damiano Crucifix, and the primary nave are few of the church's other remarkable sights.
During the 1680 Pueblo Revolt, 21 Franciscan Friars died in the fight between the natives and the Spanish. A single white cross sits on a terraced hill overlooking Santa Fe to honor those holy men. The path leading up to the cross is paved and has handrails. Plaques describing the surrounding sights dot the pathways. Come for a quiet walk during a spectacular sunset; the vista is breathtaking.
