Named after the famous first lady in 1994, the reservoir in Central Park is the largest body of water inside the famous outdoor landmark. Built in the 1860's with a depth of 40-ft., the manmade reservoir is deeper than some parts of San Francisco's bay and it was originally constructed as a temporary water supply for the city. Today, the 1.58-mile trail around the reservoir is a popular spot for walkers, runners and anyone else enjoying the views around the city. During the months of March, April and October, the reservoir becomes even more spectacular when the flowers are in bloom and when they change color, respectively.
