San Francisco's tallest point, Mount Davidson stands at an elevation of 928 feet (283 meters) and offers some picturesque vistas of the surrounding landscape and is also home to a cross that is visible from a distance. Mount Davidson Park is perched atop this crag and offers a scenic picnic spot and trails. The park and its enclosing forests provide favorable conditions for a number of resident and migratory bird species. The peak's western incline is dotted with a maze of well-marked trails, offering hikers an opportunity to experience a rainforest-like setting, complete with a foggy atmosphere and thick vegetation cover.
