Lake Hefner

Although built for practical purposes, the picturesque Lake Hefner has, over the years, metamorphosed into a canvas of unabashed beauty. Established in 1947 to increase the city's water supply, the lake is laced by many urbane areas of the city. Bordered by winding trails, rolling parks and playgrounds, the lake is a premier recreational wonderland, offering tranquil moments, right in the midst of the city. The lake and its shores play host to an array of activities like fishing, cycling, boating and sailing. A paradise for birders, Lake Hefner's shores lure droves of migratory birds. A much-frequented site in central Oklahoma, the lake is also home to a lovely, white lighthouse.
