Richly multi-cultural, Baton Rouge is not only the political capital of Louisiana, but it's also a hub of commerce and culture. With Greater Baton Rouge's population approaching one million residents, picking a mover can be daunting. We did the work for you, evaluating moving companies that serve greater Baton Rouge and ranking them based on online reviews, accreditation from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and required certifications. We then reached out directly to the top candidates for more information.

Top Baton Rouge movers

The best moving company in Baton Rougefor YOU

When you pick a mover, it's best to be informed regarding both the services they offer and the specifics of your move. If you have specific needs, like a piano or a heavy gun safe that needs to be moved , it's best to bring this up with the moving company when you call for a quote, as these services could affect the price or affect what teams or equipment they assign to your move.

A mover might be great, but they're only a good pick for you if they fit your moving schedule. Movers book up fast, especially on weekends and at the end of the month. If you're looking to move at an especially busy time of year, like back-to-school season, it could be even harder to secure a moving company. That's why it's important to plan in advance.

Abba Movers is the best choice for most moves in Baton Rouge. The company provides prompt customer service and numerous services, from packing to piano moves. With excellent customer reviews across multiple sites and a solid record with the BBB, the company is a great pick for your move. It quoted us $225 per hour for three movers, after the minimum and travel fee is met.

Two Men and a Truck is our top alternative Baton Rouge mover. The franchise chapter has served Baton Rouge since 2011, where it conducts local and long-distance moves. It has two hourly rates, $215 and $229, depending on the day of the week.

Abba Movers provides exemplary service in Baton Rouge. Covering multiple cities, including New Orleans, since its founding in 2009, it's no surprise that the company has a large number of reviews. However, the level of positivity throughout the reviews is what's remarkable. Abba Movers maintains a 4.9-star score on Google with 1,881 reviews recorded, and positive reviews across all other platforms as well.

When we called, we were taken to voicemail, after which a representative called us back promptly and eagerly answered all of our questions. The company quoted us a two-hour minimum rate of $580 for three movers, which includes two hours of labor plus the travel fee. After this, the fee is $225 per hour until the job is complete. The representative told us that the owner of a small, three-bedroom home could expect to pay around $1,300 to $1,600.

The company does not ask for a deposit. Credit cards are charged an added fee of 2.99%. However, other forms of payment, including Venmo, Zelle and Cash App are all available with no fee. Additionally, the company accepts cash and checks.

  • Pianos, gun safes and other large items

Abba Movers handles complex moves with challenging items. It will move pianos, safes and firearm safes for a fee. It quoted us $200 to move a baby grand piano, also noting that doing so requires a team of three movers. Additionally, the Abba team disassembles and reassembles furniture like dining room tables as a complementary part of the move.

The company also provides comprehensive packing services. This is available with a two-hour minimum starting at $480. After the minimum is met, the rate becomes $225 per hour for a three-person crew. Additionally, it charges a $300 fee for packing materials.

When we asked whether Abba Movers runs background checks on all team members, the representative didn't give us a clear answer. However, he did tell us that Abba has a full-time team of employees and never uses contractors.

Abba Movers is accredited by the BBB with an A+ rating and two complaints in the last three years. The company has a 4.9-star rating on Google (1,881 reviews), a 4.1-star rating on Yelp (47 reviews) and a 4.8-star rating on Angi (211 reviews).

Two Men and a Truck is our top alternative Baton Rouge mover

A Two Men and a Truck truck drives down the highway

Whether you've spent your whole life in Baton Rouge or you're a newcomer, you'll likely recognize the Two Men and a Truck logo. That's because, though this franchise is nationwide, the Baton Rouge chapter is also an established institution in its own right, with a presence in the city since 2011. It also makes customer service a priority. When we called for a quote, the representative we spoke to was very pleasant and knowledgeable.

The company has a staggered fee structure that charges different amounts on different days of the week. For three movers, the company quoted us a base price of $215 per hour from Monday through Thursday, and $229 per hour from Friday through Sunday. Additionally, it charges a travel fee of $210. This travel fee doubles as the deposit, so you'll need to pay this portion of the bill up front to book the company. It is refundable up to 48 hours prior to the move.

The company has a two-hour minimum. So the minimum you can expect to pay for three movers is $640 for a two-hour job on a weekday.

Services offered

  • Local moves

  • Long-distance moves

  • Packing

  • Boxes

The company does not charge a credit card fee and instead prioritizes card payments. The representative told us that they actually do not accept cash or checks and prefer customers to pay by card.

While the company does move large items, the representative we spoke to was unsure about whether they could facilitate a large piano, such as a baby grand. They said it would be worked out in an estimate and would likely result in an extra charge of $150 to cover a special lift if so.

The team is comprised of full-time, background-checked movers. The company writes that they approach every move they perform as though they're moving their own grandparents, striving to treat all customers with respect.

While the company has good reviews overall, it does have a considerable number of negative reviews on Yelp, bringing its star rating down to two on that platform. Some of the complaints include overbooked movers, a team that arrived late and broken items. Consider this fact when you make your decision.

Two Men and a Truck is not accredited by the BBB , though it has an A+ rating with the organization. It has three total complaints in the last three years, with one complaint marked as resolved. It holds a 4.4-star rating on Google (511 reviews), a two-star score on Yelp (38 reviews) and a 4.3-star rating on Angi (22 reviews).

Two Men and a Truck is located at 11818 S. Harrells Ferry Rd., Baton Rouge, La., 70816. Its hours are 8 a.m. through 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. through 12 p.m. on Saturdays. It is closed on Sundays. For an estimate, call 225-233-5323 or visit the website .

BLVD Moving is the best national moving company

BLVD Moving is ready to get you cross country, wherever you're moving from

BLVD Moving is ready to get you cross country, wherever you're moving from

At Yahoo Local, we work to help people make informed decisions. We like to highlight local businesses, but there are situations when a national moving company might be the right pick. If you're weighing your options, read our guide comparing local and national movers . For those leaning toward a national provider, our top pick is BLVD Moving .

Founded in 2000, BLVD Moving is run by a team with extensive experience in the moving industry. Though the company operates only four locations within California, it provides local and long-distance moving services nationwide. As a family-owned, independent mover, BLVD uses its own trucks and employees but specifies in its terms and conditions that subcontractors or agents may sometimes be involved. This practice is common in the moving business to handle high demand, but it's worth noting.

We asked BLVD Moving for a quote on a 500-mile relocation with about 1,340 cubic feet of belongings — approximately the amount found in a typical three-bedroom household without large appliances. The estimate came to roughly $6,700, which is in line with other national moving companies. The payment policy requires a 33% deposit at booking, half of the remaining balance at pickup, and the rest upon delivery.

Services offered

  • Local and long-distance moves

  • Residential, commercial, and office relocations

  • Professional packing

  • Short- and long-term storage

  • Financing options for eligible customers

For cancellations, BLVD Moving will refund your deposit if notice is given at least two full business days before the scheduled pickup. Delivery timelines vary from two to 21 business days, depending on the distance. This window is calculated from the preferred delivery date provided, which means shipments can sometimes take a little more than a month to arrive.

The company suggests booking at least a month ahead of your move and recommends securing a spot even earlier during busy seasons such as summer or the turn of each month. (Refer to our detailed guide on the best and worst times to move for more details.) Getting a quote is simple, with options including virtual walkthroughs or submitting an online inventory form for faster results. For eligible customers, BLVD also offers financing with rates starting as low as 0%.

BLVD Moving is accredited by the BBB and holds an B+ rating, with 88 complaints on record. Although that figure may appear high, it's relatively normal for large nationwide movers. Customer feedback shows a 4.3-star average on Google (from 1,201 reviews) and a 2.3-star average on Yelp (371 reviews). All movers employed are full-time staff members who undergo background checks.

BLVD Moving's headquarters is located at 21622 Plummer St., Chatsworth, Calif., 91311. Business hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time, seven days a week. To get in touch, you can call 844-274-0500 or visit the company's website to request an estimate.

Louisiana moving FAQs

What info should you have when requesting an estimate?

When you contact a Louisiana moving company, it's a good idea to have some details ironed out in advance. Come prepared with the basic facts about your move: how many bedrooms you have in both homes, the zip codes of both properties and the approximate square footage of both locations.

You'll also want to let them know if you have any unwieldy or challenging objects to move, such as pianos , furniture that needs disassembly or gun safes. Policies vary regarding these types of items. Some companies will charge extra, while others provide services like disassembly and reassembly for free.

What should you know about packing and storage inLouisiana ?

When you're ready to book a mover, take a second and decide whether you'll pack yourself or hire your mover (or a separate team) to do it for you . Most moving companies will be able to help you with packing. If their team doesn't offer packing services directly, they'll likely know another company that does.

If you need storage to make your move happen, your mover will probably be able to help with this, too. Louisiana's summers are blazing hot. If you decide to store items, consider whether you may need to invest in climate-controlled storage to protect your possessions. Read our guide to what items require a climate-controlled storage facility .

What's different about condo and apartment moving inLouisiana ?

In Louisiana, as in many other areas, moving into or out of multi-level apartments takes some planning. Many apartment and condo buildings require access through stairwells or elevators. If your building has an elevator or freight elevator, it's smart to check with management ahead of time to see if you'll need to reserve it for your move.

Parking is another factor to plan in advance. Moving trucks, especially full-size 26-foot trucks, can be challenging to maneuver in tight apartment parking lots, campuses or crowded neighborhoods. Making a plan for where the truck will fit can save you time and stress on moving day.

Do you need moving permits or licenses to move in Louisiana?

While you don't need a permit to move in Louisiana, moving companies do need to be licensed. To transport home goods, companies will need a Common Carrier License from the Louisiana Public Service Commission (LPSC) .

It's a good idea to check that your moving company is properly licensed before you hire them to move. This ensures that the company you engage with is reputable and legally allowed to move your household goods. Read more in our full guide to moving company licensing and regulations in Louisiana .

How much should you tip movers in Louisiana?

In the U.S., tipping movers is never legally required; however, it is common and may be expected. If you're unsure where to start, 10% to 20% is a good bet, depending on how difficult your move is and how well your company does. Read our guide on tipping movers for a deeper look.
