The best Bronx moving companies for you
Moving can feel overwhelming, even when you start planning well in advance. Between scouring online reviews, making countless calls, and submitting multiple quote requests, finding the right mover can feel like a job in itself. While there's no universal "best" moving company since everyone's needs differ, we did the heavy lifting (pun intended) to help streamline your search and shrink your stress levels.
The best overall Bronx mover is Roadway Moving , which has been in business and serving New York City for more than 16 years. The company also operates locations in several other states, giving it extensive experience with the challenges of both local moves in the five boroughs and long-distance relocations. With a huge range of services, Roadway Moving is a BBB-accredited business with excellent review ratings from thousands of customer reviews. Roadway movers unload boxes from a brownstone
Roadway Moving stands out as our leading choice among Bronx moving companies, and it's easy to see why. The company has been operating for more than 16 years and holds near-perfect scores across thousands of customer reviews on Google, Yelp, and Angi. It provides an extensive selection of services and operates in New York, New Jersey, Florida, Connecticut, California, and Pennsylvania.
In addition to standard local and long-distance relocations, Roadway Moving manages interstate and international moves as well. It handles specialty jobs involving artwork, pianos, and pool tables, and it builds custom crates for especially fragile belongings.
Roadway Moving uses flat-rate pricing. You can begin the process online or by phone, sharing basic move details along with a complete inventory of furniture and boxes. From there, the company determines the estimated time required and the total shipment weight, which factors into your final quote. It also provides virtual walkthroughs via video call to help ensure accurate estimates.

For a typical two-bedroom apartment, moving costs generally fall between $1,200 and $1,500, placing it on the higher end of this list. That said, the quote is all-inclusive, so there are no surprise charges. Roadway Moving told Yahoo Local that it asks for a deposit equal to 10% of the total moving cost, which is refundable if cancellation occurs at least five days before the scheduled move.
For payment, Roadway Moving accepts credit and debit cards, certified checks and money orders. We couldn't get an answer on whether a transaction fee is added for card payments.
Beyond transportation services, Roadway Moving offers storage options. Customers can take advantage of its company-owned, climate-controlled storage facilities for short- or long-term needs. Overnight and emergency storage are also available if your new residence isn't ready yet. All facilities are monitored by a dedicated security team and 24-hour camera surveillance.
Roadway Moving holds BBB accreditation with an A+ rating and only eight complaints on record. It maintains a 4.9-star rating on Google (3,446 reviews) and 4.6 stars on Yelp (525 reviews). All Roadway Moving employees complete background checks.

Serenity Movers is our top alternative Bronx mover

Two members of the Serenity Movers crew unload a company truck during a move
Serenity Movers has been in business since 1997, providing quality moving services to every New York City borough and beyond. With decades of experience, the company is highly rated by customers, offering everything from residential and office moves to packing, furniture disposal and storage. The company claims to have more than 5,000 moves under its belt, giving it plenty of hands-on experience navigating the unique challenges of moving in The Bronx and surrounding boroughs.
One of the major perks of Serenity Movers is its instant quote tool on its website, which isn't common among moving companies. For a local two-bedroom apartment move in The Bronx, the company said we could expect the cost to land somewhere between $975 and $1,219 with flat-rate pricing. All pricing is provided up front, so you shouldn't encounter hidden charges.
The only other fees you might encounter are for tolls or long-carry charges, but they'll be included in your finalized quote. The company charges $25 per flight of stairs the movers have to navigate if there's no elevator access at your building. However, again, this charge will be added to your finalized quote so you don't end up with surprise charges. If you need to cancel your move, Serenity Movers requires at least 48 hours of notice to avoid a cancellation fee.

For local moves, you don't have to pay a deposit to book your moving date. There is a deposit required for long-distance moves, but it depends on the details of your move and we weren't able to get an exact rate. If you're in a pinch, the company also offers same-day and next-day services if it has availability. While the office is closed on weekends, the company can accommodate weekend moves if necessary, and it's available on several holidays as well. A certificate of insurance (COI) is provided for free with your move if required, though you'll need to provide three- to five-days notice ahead of your move.
Serenity Movers is not accredited by the BBB , but it holds an A+ rating with no registered complaints. It also has a solid 4.7-star rating on Google (94 reviews) and 4.5 stars on Yelp (86 reviews). The company background-checks all of its movers.

I have moved with Oz 4x in my life. Each time has been great, but fairly easy as I was a single. This last move with a toddler and my wife took much more effort to coordinate. Moving with Oz made it as easy as possible. I’ll never use another moving company.

Expo Movers and Storage is best for short-notice moves
Several Expo Movers staff load one of their trucks
"Moving is stressful, and going with the cheapest mover isn't always the best option," said Alexi Melnyk, marketing director of Expo Movers and Storage. This Bronx mover helps people move locally, intrastate and across the country. The only states it doesn't service are Hawaii and Alaska.
Like other movers on our list, the company's busy season runs from May through the fall. Its other busy times? The 14th to 16th and 28th to 31st of each month, according to Melnyk. You can usually book your move one to two weeks out, although you may need to wait a month during the spring through mid-fall. While they're preferably booked in advance, they can also accommodate last-minute moves, though you should expect to pay a premium. "We get calls almost daily for a same-day or last-minute move because many people are stuck when their other mover doesn't show."
Expo Movers charges a flat rate calculated by the cubic foot, based on several factors, including the moving destination and the number of household items. Estimates include a fuel surcharge for long-distance moves and excess weight or stairs. You'll pay a $250 deposit to hold your date (fully refundable if you cancel within 72 hours of your move) and a minimum $450 flat fee based on min and travel time.

We requested an estimated cost to relocate a 900-square-foot, two-bedroom apartment with approximately 25 boxes and typical furniture from the Bronx to Paramus, New Jersey, approximately 20 miles away. Melnyk estimated it would be about $1,600, but said other factors like proximity between your apartment and truck parking could impact the final price.
The company takes certified checks, money orders, Venmo, Zelle, cashier's checks, cash or debit and credit cards. We couldn't get a clear answer on whether a transaction fee is added for card payments.
Expo Movers also prioritizes effective communication and has a review process in place to evaluate the success of each moving project once it is completed. If a customer rates the move as less-than-stellar, someone reaches out to discuss and resolve any issues, according to Melnyk.
Although the company hires contract 1099 workers during the busier summer months, all employees receive background checks. Expo Movers is BBB-accredited with an A+ rating and no registered complaints. It currently holds a perfect five-star rating from 398 Google reviews and 4.8 stars on Yelp from 39 reviews.
Expo Movers is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday, and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Expo Movers provided the best moving experience I’ve had in NYC, and I’ve moved 4 times in the past 4 years! They were so respectful of our antique furniture, exercise equipment, and everything else that made us so nervous to move. 10/10 would work with them again - we didn’t have to lift a finger. Fair pricing as well for the excellent quality they provide.
Why they stand out
Expo Movers offers a wide range of services, from local and long-distance moving to furniture disposal, white-glove moving and specialty moving. It's one of the best options to pick for emergency moves, though standard services may have a long waiting period during busy seasons.
Pros
- Services include packing, unpacking and long-term storage
- Offers furniture disposal
- Local and long-distance moves
- Emergency moves
Cons
- $150 deposit required to hold move date
- May have to schedule a month out during the busy season
BLVD Moving is the best national moving company
A BLVD Moving truck parked in a lot
At Yahoo Local, we're here to help you choose a mover that makes sense for your situation. While we love spotlighting local businesses, sometimes a national moving company is the better option, especially for longer moves. If you're trying to decide which route to take, our guide comparing local and national movers can help. For national relocations, BLVD Moving is our top recommendation .
BLVD Moving operates from four locations in California and provides both local and long-distance moving services across the U.S. It's a family-owned, independent company that runs its own trucks and employs full-time movers. According to its terms , it may also rely on subcontractors or outside agents — a standard practice in the moving industry during busy seasons.
We reached out to BLVD Moving for a quote on a 500-mile move involving about 1,340 cubic feet of belongings, which is roughly what you'd expect for a three-bedroom home without large appliances. The estimate came in at around $6,700, which is consistent with other national movers. To secure your move, it requires a 33% deposit, with half of the remaining balance due at pickup. The rest is paid upon delivery.

Financing
If you cancel at least two full business days before your scheduled pickup, BLVD Moving will refund your deposit. The company offers a delivery window of two to 21 business days depending on distance. That window starts from your chosen delivery date — so once you're ready to receive your shipment, it could take just over a month to arrive.
BLVD recommends booking your move about a month ahead — or earlier if you're planning to relocate during peak times like summer or the beginning or end of a month. (You can also check out our full guide on the best and worst times to move .) Getting a quote is simple — you can schedule a virtual walkthrough or submit an online inventory form. BLVD also offers financing options for those who qualify, with interest rates starting at 0%.
BLVD Moving is accredited by the BBB and currently holds a B rating, with 94 complaints on file. While that number may seem high, it's typical for national moving companies. The company also has a 4.5-star average rating on Google from more than 1,600 reviews and a 2.3-star average on Yelp from around 390 reviews. All of its movers are full-time employees who undergo background checks. BLVD Moving open daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Kevin and his team were absolutely amazing! From start to finish, they were professional, efficient, and a pleasure to work with. They went above and beyond to ensure everything was handled smoothly and exceeded my expectations in every way. I couldn’t be happier with the results and would highly recommend their services to anyone looking for quality and reliability.
Why they stand out
BLVD Moving is our top pick for a national mover due to its combination of experience, flexibility and relatively strong Google reviews. It has background-checked crews, but it also reserves the right in its terms and conditions to subcontract your move or assign it to agents. The quote process is smooth, in our experience, requiring a simple online inventory, and BLVD's cancellation policy is relatively good.
Pros
- Has its own movers and fleet
- Background-checked crews
- Local and long-distance moves
- Offers virtual estimates
Cons
- Can subcontract jobs to other movers
- Relatively high deposit
- No GPS tracking
- Mixed Yelp ratings

Bronx moving FAQs
What info should you have when requesting an estimate?
Moving companies need key details, like your current and new address, room count and home's square footage, to accurately calculate the size truck to send. Mention special items like pool tables, pianos, antiques or larger furniture items (think china cabinets or entertainment centers) that may incur a disassembly, heavy or bulky item surcharge.
For a detailed rundown, read our guide on how to get an accurate moving quote .
What should you know about packing and storage in the Bronx?
New York experiences dramatic seasonal changes, ranging from sweltering summers to freezing winters. Choose the right packing materials, especially for humidity-sensitive items like electronics, art, wine, books, wood furniture and even ceramics. If you're storing your belongings, consider a climate-controlled storage unit . Investing in some sealable, reusable moving bins can also help keep out unwanted critters.
What's different about condo and apartment moving in the Bronx?
For apartment or condo moves above the second floor, check with your new building's superintendent about elevator scheduling requirements. Some buildings may have regulations about moving large items and the use of service or freight elevators. Communicate and coordinate these details with your moving company if time restrictions apply.
To minimize disruption during your move-in or out, consider notifying current residents about your moving schedule. For more, read our tips for a successful apartment move.
Do you need moving permits or licenses to move in the Bronx?
While you don't need a permit to move in the Bronx, you may need a parking permit for the moving truck, depending on the vehicle's size and where you need to park. Your moving company will know what's required. New York State also requires all moving companies to be licensed and insured. You can call 618-457-6512 or email nymoving@dot.ny.gov to verify that the Commissioner of Transportation has licensed the moving company and check the FMCSA website to verify its USDOT status .
For more details, read our complete guide to moving licenses and permits in New York City . You can also learn more about New York State's moving licensing and regulations here .
How much should you tip movers in the Bronx?
There are two schools of thought for tipping movers. One suggestion is to tip 15% to 20% of the cost of your move. So if your move costs $2,500, budget up to $500 for stellar service. Another approach is to tip $4 to $5 per mover, per hour. For example, if your move took five hours with four movers, you could tip each mover between $20 and $25, totaling $80 to $100.
Check our guide to tipping your movers for more pointers.
