Best movers in Dallas, Texas

Whether you're moving locally or long-distance to or from Dallas, Texas, we analyzed and evaluated dozens of local movers to identify the best moving companies.

Plenty of moving companies do business in and around Dallas, Texas, which makes choosing the right one hard. We evaluated tens of thousands of reviews for dozens of moving companies in the Dallas area, then used a custom algorithm to objectively rank them. We cut the list to the six best movers using 14 weighted scoring criteria, including everything from Better Business Bureau (BBB) accreditation to licensing and moving permits in Texas and customer reviews. We then spoke with each company on the list to obtain up-to-date information on hourly rates, travel fees, hourly minimums and everything else you need to choose a moving company.

Quick overview

The best moving company in Dallas for YOU

Even when you've prepared as much as possible for your move, choosing the right mover is tough. Calling several companies for quotes and evaluating their reputations is time-consuming. We hope we've reduced some of that frustration with this list, but no one company is the right pick for every situation.

As you evaluate different companies, keep a couple of key factors in mind. The most important one is your budget, and you should carefully consider both the hourly rates and any additional fees for each company. If cost is your main concern, we found King Moving Co. to provide the best overall value of all companies on our list.

The second most important factor is availability. Moving companies are busiest in the summer months, as well as at the beginning and end of each month and on weekends. Being flexible with your move date will give you the best shot at securing your preferred company, but if you need last-minute services, Firehouse Movers should be your best bet.

King Moving Co. is the best overall Dallas mover

King Moving Co. launched in 1995, initially as a company that only moved art and antiques. Over its more than 28 years in business, it has expanded to a full-service moving company, covering home and business moves. Its long history in the moving industry, combined with affordable pricing and hundreds of positive reviews, makes it our top pick among all moving companies in the Dallas area.

You can use King Moving Co. for local and long-distance moves across Texas and beyond. The company also keeps to its roots, offering antique and art moving and delivery services with the backing of local antique dealers. It's equipped to handle large, difficult-to-move items like pianos and gun safes.

King Moving Co. quoted us an hourly rate of $149 per hour for a team of three movers. That's the most affordable rate for the area, making King a rare combination of the best and cheapest mover in Dallas. There is a 1.5-hour minimum for each job, so you'll pay at least $223.50 for labor with each job.

Services offered

  • Local and long-distance moving

  • Packing and unpacking

  • Specialty items

  • Bulky items

  • Antique and art delivery

The one catch to King's pricing is that it charges a $169 "base fee" for each move in addition to the labor costs. No deposit is required to book your move and no cancellation fee exists, though the agent we spoke with asked that customers be considerate and give as much notice as possible if they have to cancel.

King Moving Co. doesn't background check its movers, but the agent we spoke to said most of the people on its team have been with the company for years. They're also full employees, so no day laborers are involved in any moves. The company's reviews speak for themselves, with nearly perfect five stars across Google, Yelp, and Angi.

King Moving Co. is BBB-accredited with an A+ rating and no registered complaints, which is somewhat unusual and noteworthy. It also has a 4.9-star rating on Google (358 reviews) and 4.9 stars on Yelp (455 reviews).

The business is open from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. It's closed on Sundays.

King Moving Co. is by far the best moving company we’ve used. Being in the military for over 23 years, we’ve had our shares of moving pains. Mr. Omar A. did the pre-move walk-through in person where he provided me with an estimate and gave me tips on how to prepare for a smooth move. He stayed in communication with me throughout the move. Team Carlos (Jav, Marcos, drazon Juan, and Carlos) showed up on time to wrap, load and unload our household items diligently. They treated our furniture as if it was their own. We ended up needing two trucks instead of one. Mr. King, the owner of the company, personally called and arranged a second truck the same evening to honor the estimated quote—free of charge. We will always use this company for all our future moves.

Why they stand out

King Moving Co. delivers a rare combination of being an exceptional moving company and providing very affordable pricing. Its hourly rate for three movers is the cheapest on this list, and its long history in the industry gives it the expertise to ensure a safe move. Just be aware of the $169 base fee when budgeting for your move.

Pros

  • Local and long-distance moves
  • Packing and storage
  • More than 28 years in business
  • No deposit required
  • Affordable rates

Cons

  • Additional base fee
  • Doesn't perform background checks

Firehouse Movers is the top alternative Dallas mover

Two Firehouse movers crew members move a piece of furniture

Firehouse Movers gets its name from the company's founder, former firefighter Brian Purcell, who co-owns the mover with his wife Nikki Purcell. The company has been in business and operating in and around the Dallas-Fort Worth area for more than 20 years. Its long experience in the moving industry and consistently positive reviews help it take the second spot on Yahoo Local's list of best Dallas movers.

You can use Firehouse Movers for full-service local residential and apartment moves, and the company offers long-distance services across Texas. Unfortunately, it isn't licensed for interstate moves. It offers standalone packing services, along with basic furniture and pool table moves.

Firehouse Movers quoted us a rate of $209 per hour for a three-person crew. The hourly rate includes everything involved in your move, from the truck to crew labor. There's a 1.5-hour minimum, so you'll pay at least $313.50 for any move.

Services offered

  • Local and statewide moving

  • Packing and unpacking

  • Emergency services

  • Furniture and pool table handling

  • Storage

  • Moving supplies

Another positive for Firehouse Movers is that the company doesn't require a deposit. However, a $150 cancellation fee exists if you have to cancel your move within two days of its scheduled date.

Firehouse Movers also offers emergency moves. If you have last-minute moving needs in the Dallas area, the company should be able to accommodate your situation. The company also operates two storage locations in Dallas with climate-controlled storage units if you need to temporarily store belongings.

Firehouse Movers is BBB accredited with an A rating and three registered complaints in the last three years. It also has a 4.9-star rating on Google (3,980 reviews) and 4.4 stars on Yelp (232 reviews). All of its workers receive background checks.

The business is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and closes for the weekends.

Ashley at the office was extremely helpful and accommodating! She was professional and thorough. On our move day, Julio communicated that they were on their way and he and his crew arrived on time. They were fast, professional, and very careful with our belongings. Best moving experience EVER! I highly recommend Firehouse Movers.

Why they stand out

Firehouse Movers has operated in the Dallas area for more than 20 years. Owned by a former firefighter, the company quoted us a pricier hourly rate for a team of three movers, but there aren't any deposit or service fees required. It can accommodate emergency moves but isn't licensed to do interstate moves.

Pros

  • Local and long-distance moves
  • Packing and storage
  • No deposit required
  • Emergency moving services
  • More than 20 years in business

Cons

  • Doesn't move outside of Texas
  • Expensive cancellation fee

BLVD Moving is the best national moving company

A BLVD Moving truck parked on the street in front of a house
A BLVD Moving truck parked on the street in front of a house (BLVD Moving)

At Yahoo Local, our mission is to spotlight outstanding small businesses, but we also recognize that national movers are sometimes the stronger option, particularly when it comes to long-distance relocations. After evaluating multiple nationwide providers, we identified BLVD Moving as the best overall pick among our recommended national moving companies . (For details on how we make these selections, see our guide on comparing local and national movers .)

Founded in California by veteran movers, BLVD Moving has grown into a nationwide provider. Its headquarters remains on the West Coast, which makes it a solid choice for Seattle residents, while still offering both local and cross-country moving services throughout the United States. The company is family-owned and independently managed, with its own fleet of trucks and staff members. However, its service agreement specifies that BLVD may occasionally work with subcontractors or partner agents for certain moves — something that’s common practice among companies handling large volumes of relocations.

BLVD provided us with a quote of roughly $6,700 for a 500-mile relocation with a shipment size of about 1,340 cubic feet, which is the approximate capacity of a three-bedroom home without major appliances. This estimate is consistent with pricing from other long-distance movers. Customers are required to pay a 33% deposit upfront, another 50% of the balance at pickup, and the remaining amount once all items have been delivered. For those who prefer flexibility, financing plans are available to qualified customers, with promotional rates starting as low as 0% APR.

Services offered

  • Local and interstate moves

  • Residential moves

  • Office and commercial moves

  • Packing services

  • Storage options

  • Financing available

Although the deposit requirement is somewhat higher than average, BLVD makes deposits fully refundable if you cancel at least two business days before your move date. The company’s delivery timeframe ranges from two to 21 business days, meaning some customers may need to wait several weeks to receive their shipment. While not ideal, this is fairly standard among national movers consolidating shipments.

To guarantee availability, it’s best to book your move at least 30 days in advance, particularly during peak seasons like summer or at the beginning and end of the month. (For additional guidance, see our guide on the best times to move .) To request a quote, you can complete BLVD’s online inventory form, schedule a virtual walkthrough, or call the customer service line.

BLVD Moving is accredited by the Better Business Bureau and currently holds a B rating . Over the past three years, it has logged 95 complaints, which is typical for a large-scale moving provider. Customer feedback includes a 4.5-star average on Google from more than 1,633 reviewers and a 2.4-star average on Yelp from over 392 reviewers. While Yelp ratings are on the lower side, this trend is common among major moving companies, and BLVD still ranks as the top choice on our national list. All BLVD staff members pass background checks and complete company-provided training.

The BLVD Moving office is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT.

Kevin and his team were absolutely amazing! From start to finish, they were professional, efficient, and a pleasure to work with. They went above and beyond to ensure everything was handled smoothly and exceeded my expectations in every way. I couldn’t be happier with the results and would highly recommend their services to anyone looking for quality and reliability.

Why they stand out

BLVD Moving is our top pick for a national mover due to its combination of experience, flexibility and relatively strong Google reviews. It has background-checked crews, but it also reserves the right in its terms and conditions to subcontract your move or assign it to agents. The quote process is smooth, in our experience, requiring a simple online inventory, and BLVD's cancellation policy is relatively good.

Pros

  • Has its own movers and fleet
  • Background-checked crews
  • Local and long-distance moves
  • Offers virtual estimates

Cons

  • Can subcontract jobs to other movers
  • Relatively high deposit
  • No GPS tracking
  • Mixed Yelp ratings

Evolution Moving Company is another great Dallas mover

The Evolution Moving Company team in front of a truck
The Evolution Moving Company team in front of a truck (Evolution Moving Company)

In business for 12 years, Evolution Moving Company serves the Dallas-Fort Worth area, as well as other major cities in Texas, like Austin and San Antonio. You can hire them to help with moving, packing, storage and labor-only jobs. We gave the company a call to gauge how much it would cost to move a three-bedroom house locally in the area.

The move coordinator we spoke with was Alexander, who was professional and quick in outlining all the information about the moving process. In order to get an estimate, you’ll first need to list out all the furniture in your home that needs to be moved. Be ready to provide the square footage of your home too, as this helps the company get an idea of how many boxes you’ll likely end up having.

For our move, we were told three movers and one truck would suffice, which costs $210 per hour. If four movers are required, they’ll send two trucks for your move. This will cost $300 per hour. There’s also a separate $100 travel fee that covers the cost of the truck and fuel. Note that this fee goes up to $160 if your move requires two trucks.

Services offered

  • Local and statewide moving

  • Packing and storage services

  • Commercial moving

  • Specialty item moving

  • Labor-only services

The movers will use shrink wrap and blankets to cover your furniture. Flooring and walls will be protected with additional padding as well. Large furniture items will be disassembled and reassembled as necessary, and placed exactly how you want it in your new home. We were also told that all the movers are full-time employees who have been drug-screened and background-checked prior to starting their first job with Evolution.

To book your move, you’ll be charged for the first hour of your move as an upfront deposit. The deposit fee for interstate moves is even more expensive, at $500 per truck. Note that this deposit is non-refundable, so if you decide to cancel, you’ll be out hundreds of dollars. You’ll pay the rest of what you owe after the move is complete. Payments can be made with cash, card or check. However, there is an added 2.5% processing fee when paying with a credit or debit card.

There’s a three-hour minimum that applies to local moving jobs. After three hours have passed, you’ll be billed in 15-minute increments. To move a three-bedroom house with Evolution, expect to pay at least between $310 and $460.

Evolution Moving Company is not a BBB-accredited business , and it has a C rating due to the company’s failure to respond to filed customer complaints. However, it has significantly better customer ratings on Google and Yelp, with a 4.9-star rating on Google (1,162 reviews) and a 4.6-star rating on Yelp (51 reviews).

If you’re wanting to get an estimate, you can call or visit its website. Office hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The office is closed on Sundays.

Why they stand out

Evolution Moving Company provides moving, packing and labor services to several of the major cities throughout Texas. You'll need to provide an inventory of all the furniture and boxes that need to be moved in order to get an estimate. There's also a travel fee, as well as a deposit fee that you'll need to pay to book your move.

Element Moving & Storage is the best international Dallas mover

The Element Moving & Storage team in front of a company truck
The Element Moving & Storage team in front of a company truck (Element Moving & Storage)

Co-owned by a husband and wife duo, this family-owned moving company serves the Greater Dallas area and beyond. Its services include local and long-distance moving, packing, storage, specialty item moving, and even international moving services. For our purposes, we called to ask for a quote for a standard local move within Dallas.

Calling the business’s main phone line connected us with Kyle, the company’s general sales manager. Kyle was extremely friendly and personable, answering all our questions and informing us on local moving scams spotted within the Dallas area. While you don’t necessarily need to provide a household inventory to get a ballpark estimate, you’ll need to provide this information if you want to get an accurate fixed-rate quote.

We were quoted $1,514 to move a three-bedroom house locally in Dallas. This price includes the labor costs for three movers, a 26-foot truck, taxes, travel fees and fuel. The moving trucks come loaded with plastic wrap, blankets, floor runners and extra padding to protect your furniture and home. Furniture dollies and tools will also be supplied to transport and disassemble (and reassemble) larger appliances and pieces of furniture as necessary. Your moving crew will also stage your belongings exactly how you want them in your new home.

Services offered

  • Local and long-distance moving

  • International moving

  • Packing and unpacking

  • Piano and antique moving

  • Storage services

  • Commercial moving

The company has a three-hour minimum for local moves. Once three hours have passed, labor charges will be prorated down to the minute. You’ll also be asked to pay a hefty deposit fee — 10% of your quoted moving cost. This charge is fully refundable so long as you cancel at least 48 hours before your scheduled move date.

Payments can be made with cash, card or cashier’s checks. Personal checks are not accepted. There is an extra transaction fee when paying with a credit or debit card, but we were not told how much. All of Element’s movers are full-time employees who have been drug-screened and background-checked. We were told that the company never contracts out for local moves.

Element Moving and Storage is a BBB-accredited business with an A+ rating and two filed complaints. It has a 4.7-star rating on Google (949 reviews) and a 3.1-star rating on Yelp (27 reviews). Business hours are from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. It also has Sunday hours from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Over the course of 5-6 years, I have used Element moving 4 times! Each time was super. This time, I moved out of a 5700 sq ft home. As with prior experiences, everything was professional, running on time with attention and care. When it was all over and I sat with the foreman to review the invoice, they came in under the estimate that I had approved. Everything is out of the boxes and in place at our new home ... not 1 scratch on anything. I highly recommend Element moving with zero reservations!!!

Why they stand out

Element Moving and Storage provides moving, packing and storage services to the Dallas-Fort Worth area and beyond. After the three-hour mark, you'll be billed by the minute, but you'll need to pay 10% upfront to secure your move date.

Pros

  • Local and long-distance moving
  • Packing and storage
  • Prorates to the minute (after three hours)
  • Drug screen and background checks

Cons

Phoenix Express Specialty Moving & Delivery is the best specialty-item Dallas moving company

A company truck parked outside of a hotel building
A company truck parked outside of a hotel building (yahoo_local_no_syndication_614)

Phoenix Express Specialty Moving & Delivery was started by childhood friends Jeff Young and Beau Danielson. The company initially began as a courier company in 1999 but grew into a full-service moving company based locally in Dallas. Over its decades in business, the company secured hundreds of positive reviews across popular platforms.

The company moves people all around Dallas and anywhere across the state of Texas. It also offers cross-country services with dedicated crews the whole way. If you need packing or loading services, you can hire a Phoenix Express crew to handle the job.

Phoenix Express quoted us a rate of $175 per hour for a crew of three movers. A three-hour minimum exists for every job, so you'll pay at least $525. However, in our experience, whole-home moves usually take longer than that.

Services offered

  • Local and long-distance moving

  • Packing and unpacking

  • Labor-only services

  • Fine art and large item moving

  • Furniture pickup and delivery

Beyond the hourly rate, Phoenix Express quoted us a travel fee of $175 and a fuel charge of $40. However, the company doesn't require a deposit to book your move.

Phoenix Express hasn't deviated from the specialty services that gave it its start. The company still has specialized equipment to safely handle and deliver fine art, pianos, and large furniture items. It will also pick up furniture from a store and deliver it to you.

Phoenix Express Moving is BBB-accredited with an A+ rating and no registered complaints, which is noteworthy. All of its employees undergo background checks. It has a 4.9-star rating on Google (516 reviews) and 4.9 stars on Yelp (205 reviews).

The business is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sundays.

Phoenix Express was fantastic. My mother is downsizing and I needed them to move some newer things from her home as well as family heirlooms. They were incredibly careful with each piece and treated our pieces with tremendous care and respect. The movers themselves were on time, polite and cleaned up as they moved items in. 10 out of 10.

Why they stand out

Phoenix Express has been in the moving and delivery game for a long time and has the expertise and equipment needed to safely move specialty items. Its hourly rate for three movers is lower than other movers in the area, but watch out for extra fuel and travel charges. Its hourly minimum is also higher than most other companies on this list.

Pros

  • Local and long-distance moving
  • Packing and unpacking
  • No deposit required
  • Cheaper hourly rates

Cons

  • Relatively high hour minimum
  • Added travel and fuel fees

Dallas moving FAQs

What info should you have when requesting an estimate?

It helps to have a handful of basic facts about your move ready when you're calling for quotes . Always have the zip codes and addresses for both sides of your move handy. This helps the company determine travel fees.

Facts about your home size are necessary as well. Be ready to tell each company the number of bedrooms along with the square footage for each end of your move. This allows the company to estimate the size of the moving truck and the team required and estimate how long the move will take.

Lastly, prepare a list of large furniture items, such as beds and dressers, that you need to move. Some companies may ask for this list when determining your initial estimate. Mention any special items, like pianos and pool tables, as these typically incur extra fees to move.

For more details, read our list of questions to answer before hiring a mover .

What should you know about packing and storage in Dallas?

The main concerns when packing and storing your items in Dallas are heat and humidity. Keep your boxes in a dry, cool place before your move, and rent climate-controlled storage when possible for delicate items.

What's different about condo and apartment moving in Dallas?

If your move involves an apartment or condo building , you may need to reserve an elevator during the day and time of your move. Ask your building manager if an elevator reservation is required or whether you should use a dedicated freight elevator. Let your moving company know as well so you can better coordinate your move time.

Do you need moving permits or licenses to move in Dallas?

You don't need a license to move in Dallas and its surrounding areas. However, your moving company must be licensed to operate under the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles regulations. You might require a parking permit from the city or county if you need to reserve a public parking space for loading and unloading your truck. In some cases, you may just need to pay a standard meter fee for the duration of your move.

For more information, check out our guide to Texas moving company licensing and regulations .

How much should you tip movers in Dallas?

Tipping isn't required for moving companies, but it's a good way to show your appreciation for a job well done. Usually, we recommend tipping between 10% and 20% of the total moving cost. Some companies allow you to add a tip to your final bill, but you may want to split the tip between each person on your moving team.

Check our guide to tipping movers for more tips.
