Labeling one mover as the 'very best' can be challenging since the right company for you really depends on your specific needs and budget. That said, we fully stand behind every mover featured on this list. When requesting estimates, be sure to reach out to several companies and compare multiple quotes before choosing one. Some movers may even offer a price match if you let them know you're getting other estimates.

The Apartment Movers is our pick for the best overall mover in Fargo. They can help you move out of an apartment, house or commercial space, as well as assist with packing and storage. There's no deposit required to book your move, and you won't be charged any travel fees for local moves.

We were quoted $1,638 for our move. BLVD Moving is the best national moving company

The BLVD Moving crew poses for a group photo

The BLVD Moving crew poses for a group photo

At Yahoo Local, we're dedicated to featuring exceptional local businesses, but we also recognize that national moving companies can sometimes be the better fit, especially for long-distance moves. After assessing several national providers, we chose BLVD Moving as our top pick among the best national moving companies . For a full breakdown, see our comparison guide on how to decide between local and national movers .

BLVD Moving is operated by professionals with decades of experience in the moving and relocation industry. Although the company currently runs only four offices in California, it provides both local and long-distance moving services nationwide. Family-owned and independently managed, BLVD maintains its own fleet and employees. However, the company's policies note that subcontractors or agents may occasionally be used to meet demand, which is a common industry practice worth noting.

We obtained a quote from BLVD for a 500-mile move involving about 1,340 cubic feet of household items, roughly equivalent to a standard three-bedroom home without large appliances. The estimate came to approximately $6,700, which aligns with prices from other long-distance moving providers. To secure a booking, BLVD requires a 33% deposit, with 50% of the remaining balance due at pickup and the remaining balance due upon delivery.

Services offered

  • Local moves

  • Long-distance moves

  • Residential, office and commercial moves

  • Packing services

  • Storage

  • Financing

If you need to cancel, deposits are refundable as long as notice is given at least two business days before pickup. Delivery times range from two to 21 business days, depending on distance, starting from your chosen delivery date. This means that longer hauls could take just over a month to complete.BLVD recommends booking at least 30 days in advance, or earlier during busy seasons such as summer or at the start and end of each month. (You can find more details in our guide to the best and worst times to move .) Getting a quote is straightforward: customers can schedule a virtual walkthrough or complete an online inventory form for faster estimates. Financing options are available, with qualified customers eligible for rates beginning at 0%.

BLVD Moving is accredited by the BBB with a B rating and has 96 complaints on file, a number typical for large-scale national movers. The company holds an average rating of 4.4 stars on Google (from 1,303 reviews) and 2.3 stars on Yelp (from 380 reviews). All movers are full-time employees who undergo background checks rather than independent contractors.

BLVD's headquarters are located at 21622 Plummer Street, Chatsworth, Calif., 91311. Business hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. To get a quote, call 844-274-0500 or submit a request online .

North Dakota moving FAQs

What info should you have when requesting an estimate?

The information required for a moving estimate can vary from one company to another and depends on the level of detail in their pricing process. Some movers only ask for basic details, such as the size of your home, the number of bedrooms, and the pickup and delivery addresses. Others may wait to provide an estimate until they've reviewed a full inventory of the belongings you plan to move .

At the very least, you should be ready to share the square footage of both your current and new homes, the exact addresses, and information about any large or specialty items (such as pianos, safes or heavy gym equipment) that need special handling. Many moving companies add extra charges for items that exceed certain weight limits, so offering this information in advance can help you avoid surprise fees. You should also mention if either property has stairs or elevators, as movers often apply additional costs in those cases.

What should you know about packing and storage in North Dakota?

North Dakota is known for being cold and frigid for a significant portion of the year. In Fargo, for instance, average annual temperatures range from 2°F to 83°F Fahrenheit, according to Weather Spark .

Items like electronics, artwork, cosmetics, plastics and medications can easily be damaged by extreme temperatures. To keep them safe, it's best to transport these belongings in a climate-controlled vehicle. If you'll be using storage, spending a bit more on an indoor or climate-controlled unit is a smart investment.

What's different about condo and apartment moving in North Dakota?

When relocating to or from an apartment or condominium , it's often necessary to deal with stairs. Many movers charge extra for carrying belongings up several flights, and some also add fees for elevator use. In certain cases, costs are calculated based on the total number of steps climbed, though policies differ among companies. You may not be billed for one flight, but if your unit is on the third floor or higher, you'll likely encounter an additional charge.

Do you need moving permits or licenses to move in North Dakota?

Yes, moving companies in North Dakota are required to obtain a permit from the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT). As outlined in the NDDOT registration manual, all Intrastate Household Goods Carriers must secure this permit before legally operating in the state.

To receive a permit, movers must complete an application and submit several key documents, including proof of liability insurance, verification of Workers' Compensation coverage (or an affidavit stating there are no employees), and confirmation of registration with the North Dakota Secretary of State.

For more details, check out our in-depth guide on North Dakota moving company licensing requirements .

How much should you tip movers in North Dakota?

A general rule of thumb for tipping movers is to give between 10% and 20% of your total moving bill . This guideline applies to both local and long-distance moves. That said, tipping is completely optional — it's simply a gesture of appreciation for good service. If the experience falls short of your expectations, there's no obligation to provide a tip.
