Badger Brothers Moving is the best overall Milwaukee moving company
Founded by two alumni from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Badger Brothers Moving has been operating since 2010. Brothers Eric and Adrian Lee have focused their company on offering local moves and those within the state of Wisconsin.
The customer representative we spoke to said their busiest season falls in July and August, because many leases roll over during those months. The company charges $199 per hour for moves on peak days (Thursday through Saturday) and $189 for non-peak days (Sunday through Wednesday) for two movers and a truck, or $278 or $288 per hour for three movers. However, the beginning and end of each month are also considered peak days. We also learned that July 1 is the busiest moving day of the year in Milwaukee, so plan a summer move accordingly.
The company has a one-hour minimum for jobs, and when we asked about moving a two-story, three-bedroom, 1,800-square-foot house, the representative said they would likely send two movers and a 26-foot truck. The company's estimates are non-binding, and charges accrue in 15-minute increments. Billing starts when the truck leaves the lot. There’s no additional fuel charge for moves under 25 miles, and as long as you don’t have any items weighing more than 300 pounds, you won’t pay an excess weight surcharge.

Badger Brothers Moving doesn’t require a deposit but does ask that you call at least a day or two before your move if you need to reschedule. It accepts personal checks, debit cards and credit cards for payment, though credit cards incur a 3.5% transaction fee. The representative estimated moving our home would take six hours with two movers, so it would cost between $1,134 and $1,194, depending on the move day and date.
The company is fully licensed and insured to move clients anywhere within the state of Wisconsin. Its employees are all background-checked, and it is BBB-accredited with an A+ rating and has zero complaints. It also boasts a five-star Google rating (38 reviews), a five-star Yelp rating (5 reviews) and a 4.8-star Angi rating (11 reviews).

Customer testimonial
We had a fantastic experience using Badger Brothers for our move. Dallas & Sean Z were personable, professional, and made the day so easy on us! Not one item had damage despite some admittedly haphazard packing on our part. These guys were truly awesome and after some really rough moving experiences in the past, I would definitely book them again and recommend them highly. - Alexandra M., Google Reviews (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

Universal Services is the best Milwaukee mover for senior moves
When it’s time for older adults to declutter and downsize, pack and move into assisted living, working with a single provider that can coordinate the entire process reduces stress for everyone. Universal Services specializes in helping seniors move, championing owner Migdalia Zanon’s golden rule of treating every senior client as family. The company is also a member of the National Association of Senior Move Managers (NASSM) .
In addition to helping seniors transition from homes to apartments or retirement communities, Universal Services can also assist with changes in level of care or internal moves, whether you need packing and unpacking assistance or help relocating furniture to a new room. If you or a loved one is moving into a senior living community, the company assigns a move-in coordinator to help develop an action plan based on a home survey, which guides their recommendations and services.
When we called to ask about pricing, the customer representative said that the company provides estimates on a case-by-case basis. She explained that they meet in person to create a plan tailored to each client's needs and calculate an estimate based on the number of men and hours required. One reviewer did note that the company charged them $200 per hour. The company doesn’t require a deposit and accepts cash, check and credit card payments with a 2.5% card transaction fee.

It has short-term storage for temporary relocations as well.

Kad Moving and Storage is the best value Milwaukee moving company
Kad Moving and Storage has been in business for over 30 years. It's perhaps best known for its ability to move pianos of all sizes. Several reviews we read expressed appreciation for the care the teams took with these unwieldy instruments, even in tricky situations.
Kad Moving and Storage charges $150 per hour for three movers and a truck, plus travel time based on the distance between your old and new addresses. That's the lowest hourly rate among companies on this list, earning Kad the title of the best value mover in Milwaukee.
No deposit is required, but the company requests at least 48 hours of advance notice if you have to cancel or reschedule. There’s also a two-hour minimum, and additional time is billed in 15-minute increments. With the minimum, you can expect to pay at least $300 for three movers.

Like the other movers on our list, spring and summer are the busy season, so plan to schedule moves at least two to three weeks out. The company can help with short-notice moves pending availability. BLVD Moving is the best national moving company
At Yahoo Local, we’re here to help people make informed decisions. Supporting local businesses is important to us, but depending on your situation, a national mover might be a better fit. If you’re torn between the two, check out our guide comparing local and national moving companies . If you decide to go national, our top pick is BLVD Moving .
BLVD Moving has been around since 2000 and is run by folks with decades of experience in the moving industry. It only has four locations in California, but it handles both local and long-distance moves across the country. It’s a family-owned and independent company that uses its own trucks and movers. Still, its terms point out that it may use subcontractors or agents on some moves, which is pretty common in the moving world during peak periods.
We contacted BLVD Moving for a quote on a 500-mile move involving around 1,340 cubic feet of belongings — close to what you'd expect for a standard three-bedroom home without large appliances. The estimate was about $6,700, which is in line with other national movers. To lock in a move, it requires a 33% deposit, with half of the remaining cost due at pickup. The rest is paid upon delivery.

-

Financing
If you need to cancel, BLVD Moving offers a full refund on your deposit as long as you cancel at least two full business days before your scheduled pickup. Its delivery timeline ranges from two to 21 business days, depending on how far you're going. That window begins on your preferred delivery date, so once you're ready to receive your shipment, you might be waiting just over a month.
It recommends booking your move about a month ahead of time — or even earlier during busy times like summer or the beginning or end of a month. (You can also check out our full guide to the best and worst times to move for more tips.) Getting a quote is easy — you can schedule a virtual walkthrough or fill out an inventory form online for a quicker estimate. It also offers financing for those who qualify, with interest rates as low as 0%.
BLVD Moving is accredited by the BBB and has an A rating, with 75 complaints listed. That number might seem high at first glance, but it’s pretty normal for nationwide movers. It has a 4.4-star rating on Google (879 reviews) and a 2.3-star average on Yelp (340 reviews). All of its movers are full-time employees who go through background checks.
The company’s headquarters are located at 21622 Plummer St., Chatsworth, Calif. 91311. It’s open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time. You can call 844-274-0500 or visit its website to get a quote.

BLVD Moving is our top pick for a national mover due to its combination of experience, flexibility and relatively strong Google reviews. It has background-checked crews, but it also reserves the right in its terms and conditions to subcontract your move or assign it to agents. The quote process is smooth, in our experience, requiring a simple online inventory, and BLVD's cancellation policy is relatively good.
- Background-checked crews
- Offers virtual estimates
- Local and long-distance moves
- Has its own movers and fleet
- Can subcontract jobs to other movers
- No GPS tracking
- Relatively high deposit
- Mixed Yelp ratings

Kenosha Hunktz Moving Systems does not conduct background checks on its employees because it says most of them are family members. Milwaukee moving FAQs
What info should you have when requesting an estimate?
When you’re ready to contact movers for an estimate, have your full addresses and zip codes for your current and new locations ready for a more accurate quote. Be prepared to share the square footage and type of home (e.g., apartment or condo, two-story, single-family, ranch) for both ends of the move. Note any stairs or other considerations that could cause complications, like no off-street parking.
The more information you offer, the easier it is for the moving company to figure out the right truck size, number of movers and estimated time needed for your move. Also, mention any additional services you may want, such as packing/unpacking help, supplies, or transportation for items to or from storage.
What should you know about packing and storage in Milwaukee?
Milwaukee’s continental climate sees seasonal temperature fluctuations from freezing in the winter to boiling-hot summers. These fluctuations can seriously affect stored belongings if they’re not well protected in a climate-controlled environment . Use insulated containers or cardboard moving boxes and avoid plastic bags. Moisture and humidity, temperature, light, dust and rodents are the main threats, so:
-
Vacuum pack clothing, linens and other fabrics
-
Wrap mattresses and large furniture in moving blankets
-
Use dust covers to protect appliances and electronics
-
Store books and paper documents in archival-quality cartons and boxes
-
Wrap fragile items and glassware in foam or paper
What's different about condo and apartment moving in Milwaukee?
A condo or apartment may have more complex building access procedures, potential restrictions on moving times, elevator usage rules or specific parking requirements. Check with the building manager or HOA and communicate any details to your movers in advance of your move.
Do you need moving permits or licenses to move in Milwaukee?
The city of Milwaukee doesn’t require a moving permit. However, moving trucks require a lot of space with additional room to fully extend the ramps. So even though you don’t need a permit in Milwaukee, it’s your responsibility to make sure there’s a place for the truck to park. Several movers we spoke to suggested requesting “No Parking” signs to reserve a spot large enough to accommodate the truck, especially if you don’t have off-street parking.
Moving companies must also be registered to operate through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT). For more information, read our full guide to moving company licensing and regulations in Wisconsin .
How much should you tip movers in Milwaukee?
While not required, tipping your movers in Milwaukee is a thoughtful way to show appreciation for their hard work. For instance, Badger Brothers Moving notes its movers " greatly appreciate tips after a long day of hard work ." If you plan to tip, it's best to have cash ready, although some companies or individual movers may accept digital payments, like Zelle or Venmo. Generally, it's recommended to tip between 10% and 20% of the overall move cost, split between your crew.
For more detailed advice, check out our guide to tipping movers .
