Chris' Famous Hotdogs

Founded in 1917, Chris’ Famous Hotdogs has been family owned and operated for more than a century, serving generations of guests from every walk of life. As the oldest family-owned restaurant in Montgomery and one of the region’s few classic hotdog and hamburger counters, Chris’ remains a beloved local landmark where everyone is welcome. Over the years, we’ve served customers from all 50 states and visitors from around the world. Notable guests include Franklin D. Roosevelt—who famously requested hotdogs as his train stopped at Montgomery’s Union Station—along with Harry Truman, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, Elvis Presley, Hank Williams, Jimmy Stewart, Clark Gable, Tallulah Bankhead, countless sports legends, and every Alabama governor since 1917. Chris’ is known not only for its iconic hotdogs, but also for its homemade hamburgers. Each day, our team hand-patties fresh, never-frozen ground beef and cooks every burger on our seasoned griddle. Served on a steamed bun and topped with mustard, ketchup, onions, and our signature Chris’ Famous Chili Sauce, it’s a true taste of Montgomery tradition. And yes—we serve pecan pie, too. A guest favorite is our classic “1 and 1 Combo,” featuring one hotdog, one hamburger, fries, and a fountain drink. Make Chris’ Famous Hotdogs part of your day. We’ve been serving smiles and sharing stories for over 100 years—and we’d be honored to serve you next.
