Nick was raised in Oakland, so when it came time for him to open his pizzeria in the city, he went back to his old neighborhood and opened Nick's Made In Oakland Pizza. This pizzeria isn't your average greasy joint though; Nick's focuses on using the best quality ingredients for his sourdough crust and his select pizzas. You won't find "make your own" pizzas with dozens of ingredients to choose from, but what you will find is are five different pizzas, all composed of blissfully perfect seasonal combinations of farmers market-fresh ingredients. Never fear if you're not so adventurous or have some restrictions, there is always the choice of the delicious plain cheese pizza and one vegan pizza option as well. Don't miss out on the desserts, which are one of the hidden gems of this pizzeria. Nick's is also dedicated to the community, so they host special free meals for the community and neighbors every couple of months.
Brotzeit Lokal is a restaurant and beer-garden and houses over 15 craft beers from Germany! They also house over 10 craft beers from USA and from Belgium. As far as beers are concerned, they always have something new or something special. They also serve brunch, lunch and dinner. Food here has German influence. It is a great place for families as well as friends, to enjoy good food and good beer under the bright Oakland sky and the views of the water.
Cato's Ale House is a Piedmont Avenue favorite. This cozy pub-style restaurant makes everyone feel comfortable as soon as they walk in, which probably accounts for the huge number of regulars who pass through its doors on a daily basis. Cato's features a large selection of draft beers, many of them local and not easy to find elsewhere and a small but good selection of wines. The menu features regular American pub grub like burgers, pizzas and salads. This historical landmark was named after a struggling writer with a wicked past. The building dates back to 1890 and served as a lighthouse for many years. Today it is a festive restaurant and bar that offers great views of the estuary and the Oakland skyline as well as great service. The upper deck pub offers over 60 imported and domestic beers, outdoor seating, and a wine list honored by the Wine Spectator magazine. The menu features Fresh Clam Angel Hair Pasta, Blackened Red Snapper, and Caesar Salads. The award-winning wine list is very extensive with most bottles priced around 20 dollars.
