Hodad's

This addition to the San Diego downtown dining scene has its roots in the surfer culture of Ocean Beach, where the permissive parent restaurant has gathered legions of fans. Now, near Padre Park, Hodad's hopes to grow up a little without growing old. Burgers of the biggest, greasiest, most utterly satisfying kind are still the rule here, with a choice of fries or onion rings to accompany them. The atmosphere is nearly as frenetic as the beach town location, which has been featured on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives show, but will the juice-down-the-shirt succulence survive complaints by the suit and tie set? Better eat there now. Open till 10 pm every night in summer.

The Prado at Balboa Park

Located in the House of Hospitality within the green confines of Balboa Park, The Prado is a restaurant/venue that holds weddings, parties and of course a splendid lunch and dinner service. Despite its location inside one of the many splendid Spanish Colonial buildings, the food could be defined as New American. With items like duck breast, prime rib, NY Strip and salmon, the only dish which renders homage to Old Spain is the paella. The lounge also holds a nice happy hour every day where drinks like the Prado Mule and glasses of Rioja and Cava are always perfect in the evening sun.

Jimmy's Famous American Tavern

J-Fat's as it is affectionately known, is a bar/restaurant with a few locations around Southern California. The brand is also known for its convivial atmosphere, comfort food classics and competent staff. The regional American menu consists of burgers, sandwiches, steak, seafood and other familiar favorites such as flatbread-style pizzas. The barkeeps sling local beers, creative cocktails and if you enjoy wine, the ever-changing selection of grapes on tap is impressive.

Ironside Fish & Oyster

Ironside Fish & Oyster helmed by Michelin star chef Jason McLeod is the place to visit in Little Italy for a fresh, modern approach to seafood as opposed to some of the more traditional Spaghetti and Clam joints around the neighborhood. The menu changes often since it relies heavily on whatever the catch brings in, but one thing you can always find on the menu is the Lobster Roll. It is served in a brown-butter mayo and a soft bun then topped with chives; definitely one of the highlights. Seafood Paella, Steamed Mussels, Fried Oysters, Rock Fish Ceviche and excellent Peel 'n' Eat Shrimp are just a few of the items on the menu at any given time.

Snooze, an A.M. Eatery

Most breakfast & brunch restaurants start with the same script: eggs, batter, coffee & a big ol' griddle. We've found scripts are a lot like pancakes, they're best when flipped, so we're always looking to turn the best breakfast classics upside-down & on their side. Stop by for delicious pancakes, french toast, benedicts, breakfast burritos, oatmeal, breakfast sandwiches, bacon & more! From paleo to vegetarian & vegan or dairy free & gluten free friendly, we'll happily accommodate food allergies & diets. We want each morning to feel like your weekend & happy hour rolled into one, so our restaurants feature a full bar with alcoholic beverages. From mimosas to bloody marys, margaritas & local craft beers, we've got cocktails & brews covered!
