Ted's Hot Dogs is a famous American chain since 1927 serving hot dogs grilled over hardwood charcoal. Most of its branches are concentrated within New York State, this Tempe location is the only one located outside. Ted's charcoal-grilled sausages and a secret recipe for making tangy hot sauce are the reasons for the success of its hot dogs. These come in regular and foot-long versions, a skinless one for kids, and a veggie dog for vegetarians. There are other options like Mac & Ring Dog as well. You can also choose from various sauces, seasonings and fillings like charcoal-broiled bacon to make your hot dog even more delicious. Relish Italian or Polish sausage by itself, hamburgers made from certified Angus beef, and Ted's version of the classic fish sandwich. Add French fries, onion rings or a traditional soup such as broccoli cheese to your meal, along with a milkshake in an unusual flavor like loganberry. With a few exceptions, the meat and buns used here are gluten-free.
With excellent seafood, gallons of craft brew on tap, and an occasional ghost story, this long-time Tempe establishment has entertained diners and drinkers for many years in an old house rumored to be haunted. Most come for their awesome happy-hour and oysters, though the menu is better-than-average. The bar is usually filled with locals and ASU students who congregate around the old house sipping on beer pints. It's located in the historic Mitchell Park neighborhood and oftentimes people say that they can still see a ghostly figure dancing on the attic floor.
