This low-key Rick Bayless eatery is inspired by Mexican street taco stands. Bayless serves up creative tortas, sandwiches, and a number of caldos (soups), sure to warm anyone up on a cold winter day. The pozole is a healthier take on the traditional dish. The pozole is made with chicken instead of pork, and though it is usually served on weekends at most Mexican eateries, here it's served here daily. The ever-popular tortas are placed on a crunchy French bread that, while not the typical bread used in this traditional sandwich, only enhances the flavor of the specially cured meats and vegetables. Xoco also offers a great selection of specialty drinks such as aguas frescas (fruit drinks), along with a decent wine and beer selection. Dessert is a must, and during the summer months, diners can look forward to a cup of homemade ice cream with strawberries. The made to order churros, available all year round, melt in your mouth.
