Dena’s experience started as a child who she would slip off to the kitchen, pull out one of her Mom’s recipe books and, in a few hours, would present a dessert for her family to enjoy. As a high-school student, she then worked at a local bakery, which was a natural fit for her. Her skills greatly improves as she was mentored by many great bakers and an owner who did not expect anything less than 100%. Later, in her mid-20’s, Dena opened Dena’s Bakery and Tea Room. Even though it was short-lived, the knowledge that she acquired was invaluable in her future endeavors. Several years passed, when she created her next business, Dinner Any Thyme; providing made-from-scratch, meals for families. She thrived in this business for over 10, but in 2010 chose to close her business to fully focus on her young family. 5 years later, in 2015, Water Oak House was born. Dena decided that her Key Lime Pie that had been sold in several well-known local restaurants when Dinner Any Thyme was opened, would be a great place to start. Her first Thanksgiving, she sold 20. Fast forward to Christmas, 2021 where she sold close to 500 cakes, pies and quiches from her growing menu and her first Water Oak storefront is scheduled to open April, 2023 and in addition to the bakery will also offer breakfast, lunch and brunch. Dena loves the community that food offers us all and hopes that her desserts add to to create great memories around the table.
