KFC
KFC is a global phenomenon among fast-food restaurant chains, with close to 28000 franchised restaurants in 145 countries and counting. Its origin story is the stuff legends are made of. In 1940, Harland Sanders, whose avatar goes by the moniker “the Colonel,” devised his recipe for fried chicken using a secret blend of herbs and spices. Make no mistake: Sanders was from Kentucky. With his Southern Fried Chicken not really setting the cash registers ringing, the Colonel franchised his recipe to Pete Harman, a restaurateur in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1952, one Rodney L. Anderson had a brainwave and suggested that they call the chicken Kentucky Fried chicken instead of Southern Fried Chicken to separate the grain from the chaff. A few months later, the restaurant was the darling of Americans. Although Sanders and Harman were always on cordial, friendly terms, KFC’s commercial success is attributed to the latter. Despite having been demolished and rebuilt, Harman’s Café prides itself over being the first KFC restaurant.

The flagship branch of the legendary burger chain, this location of Hires Big H attracts locals and travelers, all ages alike. The ambiance here, still pays tribute to the culture of drive-in restaurants and the memorabilia around is reminiscent of the humbler times gone by. At Hires Big H, the menu is old-school and so are the prices. The Cheeseburger, Country Burger and the Hot Dog come highly recommended, and they taste even more delectable when accompanied with a load of Golden Onion Rings or French Fries.
