Located in Williamsburg on Grand Street, Baci & Abbracci is a great Italian restaurant, offering quality cuisine at reasonable prices. The traditional pizza is great, especially the quattro formaggi. B&A offers a nice selection of wines, pasta, dessert and more. In warm seasons there is a lovely garden in the back. Weekend brunch is available until 4pm. The pleasant atmosphere and friendly, astute staff makes this a great destination for a group of friends. It's also a popular place for a romantic date. The name does, after all, translate into "Hugs and Kisses."
Nica Trattoria is a tiny, old-world Italian restaurant that has the ambiance of a family dining room adorned with fresh flowers, white linen tablecloths, mirrors, and artwork. Nica Trattoria is owned by Giuseppe Nicolosi, who is a larger-than-life presence at this small, twenty-five-cover restaurant. Giuseppe enjoys mingling with his patrons as he rattles off the restaurant’s nightly specials and even advises you on your choices. Nica Trattoria only serves dinner and offers a menu that features a wide variety of appetizers and pastas like the Carpaccio Originale, the Spaghetti Carbonara, and the Penne alla Vodka. These can then be supplemented by meat or fish preparations like the Cosciotto Dagnello or the Scampi Ubriachi.
Lusardi's
Lusardi's is an Upper East Side institution that serves Italian food to an affluent but casual crowd. Owners Luigi and Mauro Lusardi, ensure an easy-going graciousness in the dining room. Antipasti include grilled vegetable and seafood. Several interesting pasta dishes and a Risotto Primavera are great as a second or third course, and entrees include Salmon in a Lemon, Wine and Garlic sauce, Pollo al Mattone which is a grilled cornish hen and Vitello Martini which is veal sauteed with wine and lemon and topped with Parmesan cheese.
In this sushi bar (formerly known as Itcho), the considerable artistry of the chef is admired by patrons who do not mind paying extra for superior sushi and sashimi. A few hot meals such as dumplings, noodle dishes and tempura may be ordered too, along with beer, wine and sake. But it is the sushi for which this little restaurant is justly noted. All is prepared according to the highest standards of preparation for traditional Japanese cuisine; the omakase menu is a flavorful, artistic dream but be prepared for the bill that comes with it.
Apart from the massive beer collection it holds, Cafe d'Alsace promises fine French cuisine conjured up by veteran chef Philippe Roussel, having moved from Brittany, France to New York. His Brittany magic will soon be working its magic on New Yorkers. Be sure to try the classic dessert Choucroute Garnie; it is one of the signature desserts of the region and delicious at Cafe d'Alsace. Check out the website for more details.
