What first catches your attention about Shin-Sen-Gumi is the line outside. Inside, boards listing the daily specials cover the walls, and conversations in Japanese come from every corner of the restaurant. You might just find yourself to be the only non-Japanese person in the establishment. The restaurant offers ramen and barbecue. For ramen, you get a basic bowl of ramen with tonkotsu (pork bone) soup, to which you can add the toppings of your choice. It may look simple, but the soup is what makes people come back for more. The barbecue side of the restaurant centers around the charcoal wood grill. The yakitori (small skewers) keep the chef and patrons busy and interactive. The nice thing about yakitori is that you can order many different kinds of skewers before you're full (as long as your wallet allows). Shin-Sen-Gumi is particularly good for late-night diners.
