Yo Sushi
Chef Scott Whitman brings izakaya to Fairfax, CA. Village Sake is a Japanese pub serving mouth-watering Japanese "izakaya" fare (sushi, salads, skewers) with finely paired sake and craft beers. A relaxed pub feel, fantastic sake, and succulent small dishes. Village Sake is a go-to pub to finish the day after enjoying the local trails, lakes, and activities, complementing streets that are already alive with vibrant people enjoying food, music, and friends.
Kansai
Kansai is located in Oakland's Temescal neighborhood, very close to the Macarthur BART station. This popular restaurant offers an extensive Japanese and sushi menu, and has Happy Hour specials on sushi rolls. Another popular aspect of Kansai is that it's open past midnight, which is always a nice find. The service is attentive, but if you need something, all tables feature little buttons that can summon your server for you.
Paradise Sushi is a full-service sushi restaurant and grill open for lunch and dinner with two northern California locations: one in Petaluma and one in Rohnert Park. It is tradition versus the 20th century at this first-rate sushi bar, which is a favorite of locals of all ages. You can gaze on ornate antique kimonos on one wall or watch one of the bank of televisions on another, each tuned to a different sports or news channel. It is a shame, though, to be distracted even a little from the delicious and expertly prepared hand rolls, nigiri and shashimi served up by the ebullient sushi chefs and the cheerful wait staff that handles the table service. In addition to sushi, you can find great tempura, including dessert varieties and teriyaki as well as a wonderful selection of steak.
