Apizza Scholls

The serpentine queues outside this little pizzeria are a fair enough indication of its popularity in the city. However, Apizza Scholls' fame goes far beyond Portland. This no non-sense pizzeria is frequently listed amongst the country's top pizza places and is a must-visit fixture when in the city. The restaurant's kitchen headed by owner Brian Spangler delights with his single-minded focus on crafting some of the best pizza. The selection has something for most tastes, and if you're thinking up something not on the menu, you can also 'Build your own Pie'.

Lovely's Fifty Fifty

Smoky wood-fired pizzas and delicious homemade ice creams beckon children of all ages to this quaint eatery with an intriguing name. Don't expect an explanation for it though, as food is the only thing in focus here. The interiors invoke a mild sense of nostalgia, though it's probably not a deliberate effort. Basic interiors, wooden tables, plastic chairs and the wood-fired oven roaring away give a very comforting vibe to the place. Choose from a selection of delectable pizza pies with a selection of Italian as well as American toppings. The salad selection proves to be a good complement to the pizzas. Ice creams are a specialty and come in some delightful flavors from salted caramel to huckleberry. Almost all ingredients used in Lovely's Fifty Fifty are locally sourced with the addition of being organic when possible. Even the ice creams are made using organic eggs and cream. There's a perennial bustle to the place thanks to the number of families coming in with kids. How can you blame them with a menu like that?

Handcrafted Pizza and Fun Times!

Dove Vivi

Adding an interesting twist to the already flourishing and star-studded pizza scene in the city, Dove Vivi offers a superb selection of pizzas, but with an innovative cornmeal crust. The idea was picked up by the owners when working in the kitchens of a Los Angeles restaurant, and the instant appeal led them to incorporating it in their own venture years later. The hand made pizza crust is the pride of the restaurant and uses some of the freshest organic ingredients. Almost all of the ingredients used in the kitchen from veggies to the meat, are sourced from local farms with ethical practices. Further, their toppings are also made fresh in-house resulting in superior tasting pizzas. Accompanying the excellent pizza selection is a choice of wines, beers and sodas. Zuccotto cake and cookies make up the dessert selection.

East Glisan Pizza Lounge

The difference starts with the dough. The Classic is naturally leavened sourdough fermented for 48 hours, hand-tossed thin and charred at the edge. Detroit bakes thick in a pan with sauce on top and a crispy cheese edge. Tavern is crackery-thin, cornmeal-crusted, cut into squares and stays off online ordering. Vegan and gluten-free guests eat just as well. The dough is vegan, cashew cheese and vegan sausage are on the topping list, and Detroit comes in a gluten-free version. Pick the style to match the night. Bring the kids early and split a Classic. Meet friends over Detroit. Come back for Tavern when you want to sit down and stay awhile. Sunday has its own reason to plan ahead: 15-layer lasagna made with handmade pasta, ricotta, béchamel and tomato cream sauce. Portions are limited, and regulars can email ahead to hold lasagna for dine-in. Later in the week, the bar gets its turn. Late happy hour starts at 8:30 Thursday through Saturday and runs all night Monday. East Glisan keeps full table service because the point is not only getting pizza on the table. It is giving Montavilla a place to spend the evening.
