Lucas Smith is an award-winning contemporary abstract artist whose work explores the dialogue between imagination, raw material, and refined technique. Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media on canvas and wood panels, Lucas creates dynamic, layered compositions that invite viewers into a journey of discovery and interpretation. His paintings have resonated strongly with collectors—more than seventy works have been placed in private collections in nine States, Norway, and Australia through exhibitions, commissions, and solo shows. Lucas’s work juried into dozens of exhibitions across San Diego County’s leading galleries, earning more than fifteen awards, including the prestigious Innovative Use of Technique award at the San Diego Watercolor Society’s 45th International Exhibition. This award was 4th place of 746 entries from 403 artists representing 30 countries, underscoring the international recognition of his practice.
I started my self-taught artist journey when I painted my first oil painting at fifteen. My paintings are pulled from my nostalgia for nature. Throughout my childhood, we moved countries often, beginning in Brazil, my birth place. Nature grounded me in familiarity and belonging. If I wasn’t exploring sea life hidden in warm, clear ocean pool tides, you could definitely find me high up in a tree lost in my imagination. I am very honored to showcase my art work in my own art gallery. Having just opened the doors this year, Rebecca Robb Fine art is not just an art gallery, it is also a space for a community of creatives to come together and enjoy the diversity of art. Besides painting, I am passionate about teaching art to all levels of experience. That is the inspiration behind my weekly Paint & Sip and kids painting workshops at my gallery. Art belongs to everyone, and painting is one of the best forms of art.
