Square One Gallery is a contemporary art gallery located in the historic Central West End of St. Louis, Missouri. Established in 2024, Square One Gallery strives to showcase contemporary artistic voices while connecting St . Louis to the greater international arts community with a diverse, global roster of exceptional artists. At our core, we uphold the idea that without the artist, there would be no ‘art’. Rooted in our beliefs of transparency and honesty, we work diligently to cultivate long lasting relationships with artists and collectors alike. Our mission is to preserve the integrity of the artist as a steward of creativity for generations to come, while offering a knowledgeable collecting experience to guide acquisitions in a fair and open manner. Philip Slein created the Philip Slein Gallery alongside partner Tom Bussman to showcase the kind of art that strikes their fancy. The pieces on display represent the figurative artistic styles of vintage and new age national and local artists. Many of the retro-contemporary exhibits tend to show where art has been, as well as venture into predictions of where art is going. Other areas of focus in the arts are on the underground art styles from New York and Chicago, with some local St. Louis figurative art sprinkled in. One can find examples of graffiti, comic book art and satirical propaganda. It's an interesting place to spend an afternoon. Stop by during normal business hours, or make an appointment.

Checkered Cottage specializes in Cardmaking and Scrapbooking supplies along with classes and a specialty gift selection. We have a large section of our shop also devoted to what we call Recreate which is a resale section for customers to bring in product they are no longer working with and resale it. Thursday evenings we have Decorative Painting classes. Our shop is considered the cheers bar of St. Louis.
We aim to fill the voids in the STL art community. Community building, bridging gaps, anti-racism, LGBTQ rights, intersection of isolated collectives, promoting quality artwork and building trusting artist relationships are the focus of our work.
