Boswell Book Company

One of the last of its kind, this independent bookstore on the North Side of town still retains hardcovers and paperbacks for Milwaukeens. It opened in 2009 and since then it has become a favorite haunt for bookworms and academicians who seek knowledge upon its shelves. The store also holds events and symposia with authors and writers throughout the year so check the website for updated information and details.

Downtown Books

Downtown Book Bought & Sold is exactly that, here you can buy as well as sell your used books. The shelves are stacked from floor to ceiling with hard-to-find titles and they also have a section for comics and records. The prices vary depending on what you are looking for, and if you still have a VCR player, they have an innumerable amount of VHS tapes. It is easy to spend hours perusing the tomes and the narrow aisles have all types of nooks where you can sit and read them.

Renaissance Books

Renaissance is the world's first used-book store in an airport. Purely local, family-owned, in business since 1959 and here in the airport since July 1, 1979. But we are owned by an old Milwaukee bookselling family, and we're purely a local institution. We're proud to have been written up in venues from the New York Times to Atlas Obscura as one of those wonderfully quirky things which make Milwaukee unique. (We have one, smaller branch in Southridge Mall, one of the few traditional enclosed malls left in this county.) We may not have ALL the local bestsellers, but our stock runs as far back as 1793 or earlier, at prices running from $3 on up. (Ask about first editions, rarities and exotica.) Famous customers? Maya Angelou, Charlton Heston, William Rehnquist, E. Gary Gygax, Kareem Abdul-Jabar, Tony Danza, Tony Shaloub, Tony Bennett, Bo Diddley, John Prine, Peter Yarrow, Mandy Potemkin, Stephen King, Penn & Teller, and YOU! (we hope)

Thirst Books

Milwaukee's first brick-and-mortar romance bookstore. Woman-owned, small business, LGTBQIA+ friendly. Romance is for everybody.

The Bookseller

The Bookseller operates inside of the Milwaukee Central Library. The stores sells gently used library books and community donations to benefit the public library system. Donations are appreciated! Children receive a free book each time they come into the store!
