The Empire Mall opened with more than 45 stores in 1975, on what was then a vacant stretch of farmland. The mall is an enclosed, single-level super regional center. It is spread over an area of more than 125 acres and includes over 180 stores. The facility includes branded retail stores, such as Macy's, J.C. Penney, Sears, Younkers, Kohl's and Target. The mall has various full-service restaurants, such as Texas Roadhouse, Applebee s, Red Lobster and the Royal Fork Buffet. It provides photocopy and fax services, wheelchair assistance, motorized carts and public lockers. The mall also provides lost and found and postal services. It has nursing areas and restrooms.
