At the SF Bujinkan Dojo we study the Classical Japanese Martial Art of Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. Gaining notoriety in the 80's as the "Art of the Ninja" and "Ninjutsu", it is actually a comprehensive Martial Art System comprised of 9 different Classical Samurai Schools, some of which also contain ninjutsu. Topics of study cover a broad spectrum including striking, kicking, grappling and weapons. The weapons used are traditional Japanese ones such as Katana, Bo, Spear and much more, however the approach is based on understanding the principles behind the techniques in order to apply them to modern applications. Classes are non-competitive so there are no tournaments or point-sparring.
We offer classes in the Indonesian martial art of Poekoelan Tjimindie Tulen. Poekoelan's beautiful, flowing movements are like water and bamboo; fluid and circular, spiraling and continuous, graceful and whip-like. Movement in Poekoelan is inspired by four animals; the tiger, the crane, the monkey, and the snake. Through these animals, we explore the dualities of soft and hard, fast and slow, fierce and playful, and highand low. Each practitioner's movement is beautiful and unique.
