Garth Taylor Jiu-Jitsu and Martial Arts

My name is Garth Taylor. I have been fortunate to share my passion for Jiu-Jitsu and the martial arts with the Santa Cruz community for over twenty years. In those twenty plus years, I have seen the training of Martial Arts change lives, for both myself and my students. Training in the Martial Arts brings our physical, intellectual, and emotional selves into balance. Martial Arts training gives us increased physical strength, cardio vascular fitness, flexibility, and mobility. This translates to everyday life, whether playing a new sport or just carrying the groceries into the house. Jiu-Jitsu is often referred to as a physical game of chess. This description is true of both boxing and kickboxing as well. Martial Artists learn to apply intellectual solutions to physical problems under stress in real time. Martial Artists make better decisions more quickly, and act on those decisions. The emotional benefits of Martial Arts training are perhaps the most extraordinary. We learn to check our ego, develop our humility. We face our fears, and turn them to strengths. Martial Artists have an emotional resiliency that helps them handle the ups and downs of everyday life.
