Star Martial Arts

Martial arts is unlike any other sport or activity because at the core of the training, the emphasis is on personal development. This allows us to teach lifeskills like confidence, discipline, and focus which will affect all aspects of our students' lives, even after they have finished training! Anyone can begin martial arts - any age, any fitness level.

Suibukan of Indiana

We are the 3rd generation of Midwest Karate Academy, a martial arts school in South Bend, IN. It was founded by Hanshi Tadashi Yamashita and Sensei James Ninios over 50 years ago. Kyoshi Jerry Wroblewski ran it for over 40 of those years. Today, Shihan Kris Gravender and Shidoin Brian Bengtsson continue its legacy and tradition as Suibukan of Indiana, an homage to Osensei Yamashita's organization.

The Tao of Restorative Ecology

At the Circle Spot, we focus on engaging with the land to incorporate social work methodology and values into a concert between people and their environment. This is not a temperature-controlled office in Granger. Take a walk with me through our woods and witness the alchemy that takes place when the intentions for positive change (set) meet the canvas that nature provides (setting) to contrast that which is inside us into meaningful reality. Here we have hosted weddings (and have the ability to perform them), classes, gatherings, and more intimate one-on-one conversations. Every year my family and I have lived here our woods and the ecology we live with reveal more of themselves to us. The "wall of green" parts to show us seasonal plants, fungi, fruits, wildlife, and story. Our hope is to share this with you in whatever capacity your life meets ours. We host classes in foraging wild plants, winemaking, food preservation, maple sap and syrup production, as well as movement classes in Yoga and Qigong. You can also work with me on a more individual basis in one-on-one or small group sessions. Coaching sessions are informed by methodology and theories from social work practice. Sessions are non-therapeutic in nature. If you are in a mental health crisis or in need of professional help, please seek the consultation of a licensed mental health provider.
